We have always gone through this donut shop without him trying for approx. 5 years in a row, until we finally decided to stop on the way home from Lake Placid. The service was fast and friendly and the donuts are delicious from this world. We have them at 2ish in the afternoon when the memory serves me correctly, so they were not fresh, but it doesn't matter at this store. Regardless of the time of day, these donuts are spectacularly melting in your mouth. If you are new in the area, I suggest stopping during the morning hours for the freshest batch and hitting it in the GPS because it is easy to miss most, it is definitely worth every penny.
We went through tourists and friends had recommended this place. On the way up, we tried to stop about 30 minutes before closing time, and they were already locked in. On the way back through we met them in the morning and they were open with steady traffic. No real places to eat, so we have our combos to go (2 donuts and big coffee for $4). Fair price, coffee was reasonable, and the donuts were very delicious. They had only simple and cinnamon, and while both were excellent, I don't know why someone would order the level if the cinnamon/sugar spread was definitely made for a much better donut. Overall a large small place.
This place is a legendary Adirondack facility. Every time we camp in Old Forge, I wake up early in the first morning and get a dozen to get back to the camp for the family. Only two types of donuts (center and level) but like most places that offer a limited menu, they have perfected what they do. You won't find a better donut period. Breakfast sandwiches and coffee are also very good.
The cinnamon sugar old fashioned donuts are like a personal pot of gold. Yum!!!
