Kokyu - Durham

The belly banh mi at this restaurant is truly the best sandwich I have ever tasted. Whenever I am in Durham, I make sure to stop by here. Despite the higher price, it is definitely worth it. The flavors are heavenly and the sandwich is perfectly balanced, unlike others that can be overly fatty. Who needs indoor seating when the food tastes this good? I am happy to eat in my car or even in an alley just to enjoy this delicious sandwich.

The service at this restaurant was very unwelcoming, with the waiter acting like a guard dog when trying to access basic amenities like the restroom or utensils. Despite sitting at numbered tables outside, all the food was brought in to-go bags and containers. Ordering had to be done through an app without access to wifi, despite there being a waiter present. Tipping was required upfront for sub par service and attitude. The food was decent but not outstanding, with portions feeling a bit stingy given the price. However, the sweet fries were highly recommended for takeout orders.

The food and service at this restaurant are excellent. However, we were unable to enjoy dining inside due to the overwhelming presence of flies. I spent my entire meal swatting at about 15 flies. This is why most people choose to get their food to go.

FANTASTIC food. Really really good. I got the fish tacos with hot sauce and they were expensive $8 per taco basically after tip) but VERY tasty. You are not allowed to dine indoors or do anything inside except use the restroom. It's honestly not much different than the food truck experience.

This spot is refreshingly good! I love that they allow you to sub out anything for a vegetarian/soy option. I would say the price is on the higher end but the service and quality makes up for it. Go check it out.
