Dame's Chicken Waffles - Durham

Our meals arrived in about 20 minutes, and we couldn't wait to dive in. Each bite was more delightful than the last, and I had to restrain myself several times. I kept reminding myself that I could take leftovers home—there’s definitely enough food to enjoy later! Everything made for a fantastic breakfast the next day, too! I highly recommend coming here for an amazing meal. I love supporting local businesses, especially ones that are Black-owned!

As for the food, I live about an hour and a half away, so it really needs to impress for me to make that drive again. I ordered three chicken wings with a waffle, sassy grits, and a sunset mimosa. The chicken was okay, but the waffle was disappointing—it was cold. I've definitely had better chicken and waffles elsewhere. The mimosa was enjoyable, and the shrimp grits tasted good initially. However, when I got home and finished the rest, I discovered plastic mixed in with the grits.

If you've ever tried the renowned Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles in Los Angeles, you'll find that Dames puts it to shame! Dames is rapidly establishing itself as a staple in Southern cuisine with their Chicken and Waffles. Everything on the menu is absolutely outstanding. The staff is consistently attentive and friendly. The only downside is that you might have to wait a bit longer, but trust me, once you experience Dames, you'll be telling everyone how incredible they are!

Positives: The front of the house staff were great and seemed poised to handle an influx of guests. Most of the food was good. I definitely recommend the shrimp and grits. Cons: Our waitress lacked the ability to move with any sense of urgency. We had a party of 8. I gathered all of the orders beforehand to assist with ease of placing the order. Reviewed it with waitress x2?and we still ended up not getting all of our items. Kitchen was definitely struggling. One person ended up not getting their meal until the rest of us finished our meals. All in all, I would definitely try again but likely at a less busy time.

As soon as I touched down in Durham, I went straight to Dame's Chicken an Waffles!! Lete tell you!!!!! THE BEST SHRIMP GRITS I EVER had!!!! You MUST check these guys out!! My son graduated from NCCU...so EVERY visit I had with him, I made sure I was going to Dame's!! Hands down, the BEST breakfast spot in Durham!! Prices are nice too!!
