Tropicana Bakery Cuban Cafe - Downey

If you are Dominican and are looking for a near distance to Dominican food, I recommend this place! AMAZING SERVICE and great portions!

We were here a few times and there is always something wrong with our order, but the staff is generally good. Today I ordered a cafe Cubano (espresso) along with a Piña colada smoothie, and the dish Ropa vieja with congri and sweet curtains. However, I got white rice with one side of black beans and roasted Yuca in a garlic sauce. Not what I wanted, but they were pretty busy, so I went with it. My wife ordered a steak sandwich, instead got a crushed beef sandwich (Vaca frita) that the server caught and later corrected what was a first. I didn't want my order to be corrected because I thought I was trying something new. For the desert we ordered the Guava cheese rice to go. It's always a delicious experience, but maybe get You're not exactly what you asked... But as long as you're open to trying new things, is that really a bad thing? I'll let you decide.

Wow, my first Cuban restaurant experience! What a treat, excellent service. We tried Ox dick, which a delicious meal w a delicious broth a delicious pork dish with onions similar to Carnitas. The coffee dishes were also delicious, no sugar needed as you get a free slice of sweet bread. Both plates came with black beans rice, then one side of Plantains (Fritten Banane). We also took some pastries from their wonderful bakery home because, good it is so FRESH delicious.

Really great place and good prices. Especially I loved their pastry selection and the black beans were delicious. I love my meal! Service was friendly. Only the problem is that the parking lot was tricky to get, just a word of caution for newcomers like me!

Tropicana is something special. The empanadas are delicious. The spicy chicken empanadas are crisp and well seasoned. The beef empanadas are served warm with a flaky crust. They also have a wonderful selection of cakes and pastries. The dine menu is also great. The turkey club is made on fresh baked cubano bread with a special kick of roasted peppers added to the classic sandwich.
