Hessen Haus - Des Moines

This was our first visit to Hessen Haus, and we had a great experience. I ordered the Jager Schnitzel with mushroom and onion gravy, which was fantastic. My wife tried the Turkey Melt, which I thought was tasty, but the spicy mayo was too hot for her liking. The staff kindly provided her with another one without the spicy mayo, and she liked it much better. Our service was excellent, and the restaurant's atmosphere was lively, perfectly matching the German beer hall theme. I would definitely return!

I was in Des Moines, Iowa, and I was in the mood for something different that I hadn't experienced in Dallas. I came across a German restaurant called Hessen Haus. I decided to try the Jägerschnitzel, and if you're at a German restaurant, you really can't go wrong with a schnitzel! The dish featured a tenderized center-cut pork loin that was hand-breaded, fried, and topped with a rich mushroom and onion gravy. It was absolutely delicious and had that authentic German flavor I was looking for. The atmosphere was lively, and the service was excellent. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience!

The food was fantastic, and the service was excellent. Despite it being a busy Saturday night, we felt well looked after. We enjoyed raspberry framboise to drink, which paired wonderfully with the bold and delicious flavors of the dishes. The portions were generous. When we left, the atmosphere was buzzing as the night crowd started to arrive, making it look like a great spot to enjoy drinks with friends.

My female server is amazing. I was never rushed. She was able to answer my questions and tell me about items on the menu including the one's she had had. I had everything I needed. The Beef Stroganoff is amazing. I didn't like the griddle residue onmy piece of bread but I did not mention it. I owned and operated business's myself. The size of the incredible piece GermanChocolate Cake is well worth the price and was enough for me take some home and share it. She put my leftover cake in a verynice container and I had a walker so she put this in a bag. I don't drink alcohol but I can see how this would be a wonderfulatmosphere and fun to be here. In case anyone thinks the prices are too high please try what you want and then decide. They cananswer any questions you have about the menu and so many dishes, etc. to choose from. I went back to tell the pharmacy tech thathas brought back a grilled cheese that is not your average grilled cheese and fries in a black container thank you for tellingme about this place. It is a little difficult to enter using a walker and I didn't see the part of the sidewalk missing andalmost broke my walker and fell over the top but I didn't and a man walking by offered to help me if I needed help. It isuniquely designed and very clean inside. I am on a low fixed income that includes me being mandatorily retired by SSA at 62years old so as much as I would enjoy trying more of their menu it will be a long time.

I?ve always enjoyed coming here, the food is generally good and the environment is chill, good amount of space as well. I went last night and our server female) didn?t seem to thrilled or even like a ?people person?. Service was rushed then slow. Shenever checked to see how our food was. The roast beef was a pile of lukewarm mush, left uneaten. Our table ordered 3 appsbecause the happy hour price $2 off) but when our bills came, she said they don?t do that anymore. So why have happy hour signsposted all over and include it in the menu? Maybe tell us before or still honor it? Terrible customer service experience comingfrom someone who worked in the restaurant business for several years. I had to ask for the burger happy hour price to be changedon the check $2. Not a huge deal with the prices, but come on. People consider special pricing when choosing theirmeals/drinks. I will say my Wild West Berlin burger was a 10/10 along with the fries. update 7/6 I came back and myexperience was much better. The service was great, quick and attentive. I got the same meal because it was so good the firsttime. It doesn?t disappoint.
