Sushi Umi - Denver

I had a truly fantastic experience at this restaurant while celebrating my wife's graduation in radiology! The atmosphere was friendly, and our server Sandra was incredibly patient, offering us excellent suggestions since we were uncertain about what to order. The calamari was amazing, especially for my wife, who isn't a fan of the tentacles. When it comes to sushi rolls, I highly recommend the Fire in the House fried roll and the Umi Special. I was initially hesitant about the Umi Special because I’m not a big fan of mango, but after a little persuasion, I gave it a try, and it has now made it into my top five favorite rolls!

The food here is always amazing! I live nearby and frequent the restaurant because it consistently delivers delicious dishes. The staff is very laid-back, creating a relaxed environment to enjoy your meal. Everyone is incredibly friendly. We particularly love the boyfriend roll, amigo roll, and the scallop roll (which you can see in the picture). We always order the fried gyoza, miso soup, and a seaweed salad. My partner and I are looking forward to trying their sushi boat next time when we're really hungry!

However, the quality of the food was disappointing. We ordered chicken hibachi and a beef bowl with side salads, along with two sushi rolls. Upon opening the containers, the first thing that struck us was the pale and stale appearance of the meat. My chicken was oddly shaped, rubbery, dry, and lacking in freshness. The vegetables were nearly brown and soggy. The beef was shredded to the point of being unrecognizable and also dry. When we looked at the sushi rolls, we found that the spicy tuna was mashed together, rubbery, dry, with mushy and cold rice. They did not taste freshly made at all; fresh rolls are usually delicate and nearly fall apart when you eat them, but these were just a solid, dry mass. The unagi roll was bland. After tasting everything, our stomachs began to turn, and we lost confidence in the safety of the food. The side salad was simply pre-packaged lettuce with a little dressing on the side. Our total bill came to $60, and the only part of the meal that was edible was the rice. I hate to be so critical, but this food truly was not fit to eat. It felt like we were served leftovers from the night before. I genuinely wish this restaurant the best in the future.

I LOVE sushi umi! my boyfriend and I have been here about 20 times just the past two months, the staff is always so friendly and they make us feel right at home! the sushi is EXQUISITE and good quality, not to mention at a great price! ive recommended sushi umi to all my friends and family. of all the sushi places i?ve tried, high end and all, sushi umi will always remain my favorite!

We happened to go for happy hour, which now we know is Monday through Saturday from 1 to 5. They have $5 and $10 specials on specific sushi rolls. We had The Angry Dragon, the Miami Heat and the Godzilla. They were all so delicious. As far as the Miami Heat with the green chili, to die for. The Godzilla, if you like crunchy as I do this was delicious. Not to mention, the food looked beautiful. Julius was our server and he was very kind and attentive.
