Contribuiți la feedbackThis is an amazing restaurant, and an even better place to hang out. Their food is local, fresh, and some of the best-tasting and creative meals you'll find, ESPECIALLY in such a small town. The owners are friendly, positive, and really try to make everyone's time there the best possible experience. I've been biking across the country for a month now, and I haven't come across any place HALF as good as the WhistlePig bistro. It's located right off the Creeper Trail, and is across from the old-timey ice cream shop on the main road going through town. After being in town for 4 days (we only wanted to stop for 1, but after hanging out in Damascus we decided to stay for 4), we have eaten here every day. It's THAT good. You can get an amazing meal, a cold beer, and good times for under $10. Instead of getting a run of the mill burger and fries, you'll get a seasoned (or even blackened) burger, with fries covered in seasoning, garlic, and dill. Truly some of the best fries I've ever eaten. They even have great options for vegetarians, seeing as the co-owner is a vegetarian. Soy dogs, veggie reubens, fried green tomato sandwiches, and the perfect-for-summer gazpacho are just a few of the options for the people who don't eat meat. It's fun, friendly, and the menu is out of this world good. You'll always get a smile from the staff and owners, and they'll be happy to talk to you about their philosophy on good food.
5 stars for its reputation. Everyone in Damascus raves about it. But it has moved to Glade Spring, about 15 miles away off of I 81. WIll definitely check it out next time. [hidden link]
We found this place in a little town off the Virginia Creeper...i'm a foodie, so good eatin' is nothing i'm new to, and this place is great...my family got separate dishes and all were fantastic...if you are visiting the area, this place is worth the stop!
I agree whole-heartedly with Thomas H. This is the best place to eat in Damascus! Good quality, wholesome food at a reasonable price. The kitchen management is the crew that made the Wild Flour in Abingdon so popular. They are great people and happy to serve those looking for great food. If you are a vegetarian or not, this is the place to eat. The veggie burgers are the best I've had in SWVA. The black-eyed pea burger is simply delicious. Their beef burgers are equally as exceptional. I am eager to try the rest of their menu!
So you just tripped in or pedaled in to Damascus, hungry, thirsty and needing a cool place to enjoy a meal. Easy choice is the friendly people, tasty food and cold drinks, yes beer, at the Whistle Pig Bistro. Locals know, hikers, and Virginia Creeper bikers too that the Whistle Pig is a must stop if you are in or even close to Damascus.
