Schooners on First - Cochrane

It's a little pricey for fish and chips, but Schooners offers a very tasty meal. The Haddock appeared to be out of a box, not restaurant-dipped, but was properly cooked. The Halibut pieces in our fish tacos were perfect. The fries were delicious and appeared home cut, but I was a little disappointed that the coleslaw was a an extra charge given the already steep prices - $45 with sodas.

Good food, good service but poor value for your dollar.My wife had fish tacos. They came on a long china plate with cute, little taco holders. Nice presentation.My halibut fish and chips came in a plastic basket lined with checkered paper. Really!? I didn't order take-out. I wasn't planning on eating on a park bench. I was in the dining room. I paid $24.00 for my meal. Don't I rate a plate?OK, I'm an older gentleman - 69. I delivered fish and chips on my bicycle as a boy when they cost $0.40 for an order - $0.25 for fish and $0.15 for chips. You could feed a family of five for $2.00 Fish and chips was a cheap meal back then.Thanks to inflation and high demand by the Japanese, who will pay a silly amount for food, the price of halibut has gone through the roof. I get it. But when each portion was the size of the palm of my medium-sized hand, I feel ripped off.We had no drinks, just water. No dessert. With tip, the meal set us back $45.00.With a couple of drinks, coffee and dessert, the bill would probably have been closer to double that.It was just fish and chips, not a gourmet meal.

We come here to satisfy our fish and chip cravings because it's the only non-chain option in cochrane. but we are never blown away. never had anything but the halibut.

Excellent fish and chips for eat in or takeaway, a little on the expensive side but a great treat, good service too.

Almost three years now and never been disappointed. The staff is always amazing and the chef is a force to be reckoned with. Best shrimp basket in Canada. cooked to perfection every time. can't go wrong with anything on the menu so far.
