O'donovan's - Clonakilty

Had fish and chips and was told that fish was deboned. I ended up with a bone stuck in my gum and bleeding. I understand that all bones can’t be removed but don’t promise “deboned”. Rather state that there may be some bones present!!!! I complained to the manager (an old lady) who became immediately very defensive and aggressive. She straight out asked me what do I want out of it as if I was pushing for a free meal. Then she slammed down a piece of paper and a pen and told me to write my name so she will “know who my lawyer is”…..I was not going to sue her! I just wanted an apology or at the very least, empathy!!! I got nothing! She ended up shouting me out of the reception. Appalling impression of how this dive hotel is run!!!! I’m not gonna lie…the food was not bad but deboned fish should be exactly that!!!! What if it was my child who swallowed it? Disgusting behaviour from the manager!!!

Disappointing,loved the casual,rustic layout,service disappointing,steak sandwich x4 very tough and small ,overall very disappointing ,but most of all is very,very,cold all ate with coats and scarfs on, no heating on,but very expensive,check it out before committing .

A family holiday and our first night out we ate here. A small menu but the food was simple but tasty. The service was very good from the young girl behind the bar It’s was the hottest week for a long time and we were fascinated by those sat around an open fire that was burning away! We didn’t get to hear the live music that had been highly rated as we went elsewhere but was an interesting place, certainly full of history and big!

Service was good given the type of venue and the barman helping us seemed friendly enough. The venue was somewhat quiet and we were fed at a reasonable time. The food however was a real letdown given the price. The Burger and Chicken Goujons were advertised as Homemade but given the shape and taste of both items I highly doubt it. The Goujons €17 was perhaps the worst item ordered, literally 2 small pieces of breaded chicken a little bigger than the palm of your hand , a handful of chips and nothing else the garlic mayo advertised had to be requested . The Burger €19 was also quite plain and consisted of a small patty, lightly cooked white onion, cheddar and a strip of back bacon. The taste normally would be considered reasonable if it was falsely advertised , but the poor presentation and evident lack of value for money made the entire experience a let down. Management reading this should strongly consider updating the menu, adding some salad/coleslaw/garnish to the main courses atleast a burger set on the burger! . These items literally cost pennies and would go a long way in the presentation of dishes. For now, just another tourist trap.

We visited twice during a short stay in Clonakilty for a light lunch and were very happy with both the quality of food and service. It's simple, traditional food so don't expect anything too fancy. We just had sandwiches and soup and thought it was very good value for money. Despite being low season it was fairly busy so took that as a positive sign.
