Hench's is a charming, no-frills, locally-owned restaurant that truly embodies a mom-and-pop atmosphere. There's no pretense here; they focus on serving unique yet traditional American dishes, and they’re upfront about what to expect (pardon the pun). The effort put into decorating and crafting the restaurant is evident. Every menu item I've tried has been delicious and thoughtfully prepared. Hench personally cooks the meals and enhances the experience with his warm and engaging personality. I highly recommend visiting early to enjoy one of his excellent breakfast sandwiches or stopping by for lunch to indulge in a Reuben-dog, a nod to Hench's roots as a hotdog stand on Route 12.
I dined there today and the food was absolutely delicious! I enjoyed everything we ordered; the Poutine was fantastic, the portions were generous, and the prices were very reasonable.
Alongside the delicious food, the restaurant also functions as a museum that exhibits local artifacts.
A bit off the beaten path, but definitely worth the effort to seek out, Hench's is a charming diner with traditional hours—open early and closing in the early afternoon. I've visited a few times now, and I absolutely love the food and eclectic décor. I appreciate dining somewhere that offers delicious meals at reasonable prices, and this place delivers. It may not be upscale, but it has a cozy atmosphere, and the owners are incredibly friendly. The unique tables and seating, along with the nostalgic ambiance, really enhance the experience. I particularly adore the barrel seats—if I could, I’d take one home! Supporting this local mom-and-pop establishment is a far better choice than grabbing a breakfast sandwich from a fast-food chain. You definitely won't regret it!
