Swamp Fox Restaurant Bar - Charleston

Eric was a friendly and attentive server. The shrimp and grits and salmon entrees were both delicious. We had a great time and would definitely come back again.

The Swamp Fox is located inside the lovely Francis Marion Hotel. We were warmly welcomed by the hostess and seated right away. The restaurant’s decor is tasteful, and a piano player entertained us during our meal. Our waiter, Eric, was remarkably attentive. In addition to the She Crab Soup, I ordered the Short Ribs with Ricotta Gnocchi, while my husband had the Shrimp Grits. Everything was incredible! The gnocchi was the best I’ve ever had, and the soup was outstanding—it has quickly become our new favorite. When we praised our meal, Eric shared that the Shrimp Grits recipe is available on their website, which thrilled me since I love to cook. I was eager to get the soup recipe too. Eric offered to check with the chef, but unfortunately, that one wasn't available. However, he kindly gave me Chef McDaniel's business card and suggested that I email him for any recipes I wanted! I'll definitely do that as soon as I finish this review. The only slight criticism I have is that, before our meal, we were served a loaf of delicious bread. While it was fine that it was cold, the foil-wrapped butter packets were so cold they were nearly frozen. It’s a minor issue, but I believe that a restaurant of this caliber should provide a dish of easily spreadable butter with their bread. Overall, if you find yourself in the Charleston area and appreciate great food, don't miss out on The Swamp Fox!

The Shrimp and Grits appetizer was absolutely delicious! It was the perfect portion size!

The Bibb salad, fried chicken and butter cake were delicious. The gravy, collard greens and she crab soup weren't to my taste. Our waiter went beyond and above to help us get what we wanted.

The food wasn't bad. Service was a little slow. I ate here only out of convenience since I was staying at the same hotel it's located in. If you're under 35-40 years old and want a fun atmosphere to have your dinner in, this restaurant is not for you. The vibe of this restaurant and decor gave me retirement home vibes.
