L'etoile D'or - Catania

Located on a small street, the staff was incredibly nice to Americans. The owner came out, greeted us and said something beyond our French. He laughed and came back with English menus. So pleasant, happy to see us. The crepe was delicious and they had 20 different types. The last thing they said was “see you tomorrow”!

Visiting Catania with friends , we ad to stop here to try the famous arancini of Sicily! For me personally it was the best ones I ad in my Life. Point final

Sicily=ricotta=cannoli? Nope. Ricotta=raviola al forno from bar Etoile d'Or! This bar I know of old and its standards have never failed. The patisserie lab is in-house and even in the small hours of the night, the best breakfast treats get dished out here. Their raviola pastry is true workmanship, light, fluffy, delicately buttery. Their filling is a major craving of mine, not overly sweet, light, super fresh and this instance, still lukewarm rather than cold, which I prefer and is a benefit of having in-house baking. I shared it with my son as this thing is huge and it was his first time tasting it, too. Accompanied with a ginseng coffee.

My husband and I stumbled upon this place while on an excursion from our cruise ship. We went inside to order coffee and cakes (choosing was very difficult as they are all stunning! . We took a seat outside as it was warm and gave us the chance to watch people at the nearby fish market. Our order was brought out promptly with glasses of water. When we finished we went inside to pay and were shocked that the bill came to a fraction over 7 euros! At home we would have been a lot more. We were wishing we had been hungrier to try out some of the savoury pastries and arancini on offer,maybe next time........ Lovely place to stop for a light lunch or coffee and cake. Beautiful pastries and cakes at inexpensive prices only wish we had one in Scotland.
