Ghan House - Carlingford

My husband and I had the best time at the Ghan house! Such a beautiful property and the hosts were fantastic and very welcoming. Rooms were cleaned every night and breakfast was delicious. Would recommend 100%. Thanks for a great stay!

Very nice restaurant, pleasant staff and food is excellent and wine was so nice had to get a second bottle, very Reasonable price.. and after the meal , sat outside at the pond, lovely

We booked Ghan house as it was in out to do list as we are true foodies. We travelled 2 hours each way for dinner and it was definitely with it. A stunning Georgian house with walled gardens. Being our first dinning experience since the commencement of the pandemic we were a little apprehensive, however no need at Ghan house. We were created at the front door and escorted upstairs to the dinning room, hand sanitiser on entry and also upstairs and in the ladies. We didn’t have wine as like I said we travelled two hours each way. So asked for large bottle of still water they only serve small bottles or jugs of tap water. We opted for the four course with bread and chefs appetiser of duck parcel it was delicious duck is my favourite and it was so flavoursome. I had salmon for mains which was nice and my husband had the 3 bird pate it was absolutely awesome I was so envious I didn’t order it. Mains was stark for us both and again well cooked one was med rare other med and both perfect succulent and fabulous we ordered extra vegetables and they were amazing as were the chips we ordered. Dessert for himself was chocolate and it was demolished very quickly mine was Miele and not to my liking but my husband said it was beautiful and sweet. We didn’t stay for coffee as it had taken almost 2.5 hours for dinner which is good to have the space between courses. The only downside I have to say (and management couldn’t have control over this) was a table of 5 were beside us and when they entered we couldn’t hear the background music and had to be said difficult to hear each other across the table. Some consumers/customers are so inconsiderate for other dinners such a pity as an otherwise perfect evening.

We ate dinner here in April 2019. It was truly excellent. Looking back it was finest food I tasted any where in 2019. Such freshness and attention to detail for every part of the meal--is becoming rarer unfortunately.

We stayed 3 nights and had dinner once. The hotel is very comfortable. We had a very good room at the front in the main building. There is a comfortable lounge and a small bar. Very good breakfasts and the dinner was also good though not outstanding. Carlingford is a nice place to stay with a choice of pubs and restaurants.
