Taaffes Castle - Carlingford

Went to Taffes Bar with work in May 2023. It was a staff night out from Belfast and I organised it. Finger food for 32 guests was to be provided at 10 euro per person (all paid for in advance). After waiting for an hour and a half we were eventually given foil cartons with a few chips and 2 cocktail sausages or one bit of chicken. The vegetarians, which I am, were given a bowl of salad, that was it!! I emailed Taffes Bar on numerous occassions before arrival and I was offered pizza, vegetarian burgers etc. I am so embarrassed at what was offered to the staff. I have been trying to get a refund but wouldn't you know can't get anyone!! Please avoid this place at all costs!!! Terrible.

Staff behind bar refused to serve me unless I kissed them. Then when I asked the girl behind bar to serve me she wouldn't as I refused to kiss the men staff. I'm not joking please please do not go there.

Similar review to previous reviews postponed our activity by 1 hour, dinner at proper had 1 GF option and it was awful. The most shocking thing I found at Taaffes bar was after a certain time they don’t allow sale of certain shorts normally drink tequila soda water and lime but was told they hadn’t any when I pointed out the bottle that was sitting behind the counter where I’d been served it earlier in the day they then said they weren’t allowed serve it could have vodka, barcardi gin or whiskey. Ridiculous!

Avoid Avoid Avoid Terrible is an understatement! We booked 2 nights with this company . Great communication until you book, then nothing. So unorganised and stressful. They never gave us a final breakdown of costing until the day of the hen. The day before the hen party, at 3pm, they emailed and demanded an extra €400 security deposit that was not mentioned in any previous correspondence. The accommodation is not fit for purpose, holes in walls, no towels/cutlery/glasses, really grubby conditions, mouldy ceilings, freezing cold. We were promised all single beds... more lies. And you couldn 't sleep on the mattresses, springs coming through. We were not expecting luxury, but you wouldnt house animals in these conditions. They gave away our slot for an activity booked with them, we were 4 mins late. When asked can we just use the area that the other group had booked we were told there was none, so they just double book everyone to make you wait and buy drinks onsite to make more money. They were so unapologetic and unprofessional. Taffees bar own half of Carlingford. Proper restaurant is mediocre at best, they pushed back our Booking by 1 hour (with 20 mins notice), no wine provided with meal and cheapest bottle of house wine is almost €30. We paid really good money for a service that was not provided. Don 't book with this crowd. They can 't provide the service you book with them. They treat you like you 're the problem and have a smart answer for everything. Horrible experience. 1 star is a star too many.

Don't ever go here for a stag or hen we stead in a house that was filthy freezing fire alarm was pulled from ceiling bathroom door was broke and had more cobwebs than the Adams family. We where meant get breakfast next day in taffes bar we were sent to another place to get a breakfast bap. 400 security deposit I'd to ring 2 r 3 times a day to get back that almost took a week. Lost out on 30 of it because a pensioner that was with us had a cut on him arm a bit of blood got on the sheet. Will never be back nor anyone that was on the stag awful experience
