La Piana Di Farina Gilberto

A long time since I last came to a Ristorante del Buon Ricordo where if you eat their speciality they give you a hand painted ceramic plate depicting the dish with the name of the restaurant and locality. But this was a special occasion and it warranted the plate. On a cold November evening the dining room was nice and cosy although I would really like to come here in summer and eat outside. The restaurant did not push the Buon Ricordo side. A plaque at the entrance and a few plates above the entrance was all. The service was friendly (but not over friendly) and very efficient. They also had a perfect understanding of children which was nice. The food was beautifully regional and the Piatto del Buon Ricordo Millefoglie di Riso Croccante con Ragù di Salame Fresco was definitely very good. My children had other dishes (Amatriciana and Gnocchi ai formaggi) that were equally good. The seconds were also very good although the Mondeghili con purè di patata di Oreno were good they did not hit one as being super-special. What was delicious was the mash potato using local 'Oreno ' potatoes. The Flan Caldo al Cioccolato Fondente which we all had was to die for. Just the right temperature, just the right level of sweetness (we are not sweet-toothed) and rounded the meal off beautifully. They fully understood our need to leave quickly (mid-week with children) and brought the bill promptly. Good value for money, as everything was priced correctly. No sting in the tail. Thank you for making a big occasion a very pleasant one for us. Look forward to coming again and trying something else... the cheeses looked VERY interesting.

TOP QUALITY local food, the place is located in the courtyard of a former farmhouse, which has been restored with some interesting solutions. Have been here in August, so don't know whether it feels as good also in the cold season. Not easy to find unless you've a nav, and parking is limited, for the place is in the center of the small neighborhood of Carate. Nonetheless, definitely worth trying. Can be reached quickly from the racetrack of Monza, and not far from Milan.

I was a little disappointed, compared to a year ago when i first came here (and had a 4/5 experience).The maialino dish was very dry accompanied by a superdry tortino di patate . The plates looked sad this time around...the presentation needs a lot of improvement, some colour and life maybe. There is also a very limited choice. I also much preferred sitting inside the cosy restaurant the last time and not the lifeless outdoor covered terrace. A pity.
