They offer a combo meal for around $16, which includes a main dish, a drink, and a bubble waffle. Unfortunately, there was a mix-up with our order. We requested an Oreo bubble waffle but received a chocolate one instead. When the staff delivered the waffle to our table, it looked undeniably like chocolate. We asked if it was Oreo, and he confirmed it was. We decided to eat it anyway, but after a bite, we realized it was indeed chocolate—not Oreo. This was fine by us, but as we were discussing the situation at our table, a gentleman overheard us and, I believe, was the manager. He approached us to confirm that it was chocolate and sincerely apologized. We assured him it was no problem, but he insisted on offering to remake our Oreo waffle anyway, which was not necessary but very much appreciated. **Detailed Food Review:** **Bubble Waffles:** These delightful treats come with a crispy exterior and a soft, chewy interior. They offer about seven different flavors: original, chocolate, cheesecake, strawberry, sesame, green tea, and Oreo. My personal favorite is the original. **Hainan Chicken Rice:** You can choose between regular steamed rice and yellow rice, and I highly recommend opting for the yellow rice. It’s infused with chicken fat and broth, making it much more flavorful and aromatic. The portion sizes are generous, and the chicken was juicy and tender. My two friends ordered noodle soups, which I love for their customizability. You can pick your protein and then select from a variety of broths, ranging from chicken to spicy or even laksa. They truly have an impressive selection!
I revisited Calgary's Chinatown today and decided to stop by Bubble Waffle. The combo deals looked promising, and while the HK lemon tea and bubble waffle were both refreshing and sweet, the beef noodles were a major disappointment—definitely the worst I've ever had. The beef was of poor quality and disintegrated into tiny bits with each bite, while the egg noodles were tasteless. I had to request extra hot chili sauce and soy sauce just to add some flavor, but ultimately I couldn’t finish the dish and chose to explore other options. Street parking costs $4.50 per hour. While I wouldn’t recommend the savory dishes here, the waffle was quite tasty.
We ordered the Oreo bubble waffle, but it turned out to be rather bland. I expected a sweet waffle, but it didn't have much flavor—perhaps it was lacking in sugar or something. We also tried the laksa with duck, and while the soup was slightly spicy, it tasted good. It came with a drink—Hong Kong-style milk tea—which I really enjoyed. The only letdown for me was the waffle.
The HK milk tea was delicious, and the chicken was tender and juicy. The only downside was the rice, which was a bit hard for my taste, but overall, I really enjoyed the meal.
I had a quick lunch with some coworkers, and I have to say, the amazing soup was absolutely delightful. I ordered a Sichuan peppercorn soup with slices of chicken and rice noodles—an epic combination that will leave anyone craving more. To top it off, I enjoyed it with some Hong Kong lemon iced tea, which was the perfect refreshing touch. Simply fantastic!
