The restaurant itself had a simple decor with white tablecloths. The food was intriguing - the hot and sour soup was well made but a bit too peppery for my liking. The Kung Po Chicken was a bit divisive - my wife didn't care for it, but I found the spicy oily sauce to be very interesting. The scrappiness of the chicken actually added to the dish, making it unique and complex. The peanuts and spice combination was excellent and something I could easily crave. Overall, I could see how some people might not enjoy this place due to its slight rudeness, scrappy chicken, and peppery flavors. However, I personally found it to be special and above your typical bland Chinese food. It's definitely worth giving it a try for a unique dining experience.
After having Szechuan food at Highgate Chinese Restaurant a few weeks earlier, I was back in the mood for some more Szechuan cuisine so I dropped by Szechuan House Restaurant on Imperial for some take-out.
Got take out here twice and they were both really good! I'm surprised a restaurant with this appearance tastes this good.
Proviso...if they can eat hot and spicy Chinese food, then I'd recommend this nice, small, neat, no parking problem place.Sliced fish soup comes with hot chilis floating in the soup. You are not expected to eat the dried chilis that float! Brush them aside and taste the lovely fish pieces! Eat with white rice...yummy.For cheap eats, try the Szechuan beef braised noodle soup...very good! I also had the braised pork intestine noodles...yummy too.The home style braised eggplant is a wonderful vege dish to order to accompany the other dishes. This is a family restaurant.
