This used to be an excellent place for Sunday Lunch. Sadly it is no longer. The food was lacking in taste and the sprouts were cooked so much they were mushy( this might be to help the very elderly clientele digest them” The Yorkshire puddings...looked like mass produced ones rather than the home made ones that this place used to serve. The waiting staff weren’t as smartly dressed as previously. I know we have been through “Covid “ but this shouldn’t be an excuse for lower standards. The food was on a par with Toby Carvery but at double the price.
Excellent value for money beautiful pastries and cakes. The scones were delicious and a great selection of sandwich fillings. Too much to eat in one go but we were able to take home our left overs. Staff very friendly and bought more tea without being...asked. A really lovely treat thankyou
This was my first visit here for Afternoon Tea and my first impression wasn't a good one. We were given the choice of two tables which were both set for afternoon tea. By that I mean a plate of sandwiches each was already on the...table covered in cling film. I thought this very odd especially as we had arrived early and I was concerned how long they had been sitting there. There was also scones on the table. The empty cake stand that was on the table was taken away to be returned with a selection of cakes and a pot of tea. The selection of sandwiches did actually taste nice. Again I found the cake selection a little strange, too much pastry and cream fillings. No actual sponge cakes at all. However the thing I found most disappointing and unacceptable was being served a pre-packed individual carton of tasteless, fruitless jam and clotted cream. At a cost of £23.00 per head plus service charge this was not good enough. I have since noticed from photos, actual pots of both jam and clotted cream are shown. I found the barking of a dog seated on a sofa rather irritating, even as a dog lover. I couldn’t help but notice, the other table we were offered was never occupied, assuming there had been a cancellation. Approximately 45mins into our tea, the sandwiches and scones from this table were removed. Slightly worrying that this food had been sitting there all this time.
They close at 4 but we popped in at 3 hoping for tea and cake. We were offered tea and something from the dessert menu. We weren't disappointed. We each had something different and all were delicious. We were made welcome even though it looked...as if they were finishing up for the day. Looking forward to going again.
