A hidden gem in Brooklyn. For uzbeki food lovers, this place recently became my go to. Their food is priced decently and always made to order. The quantity they provide for the money is plentiful. The food and service both is top notch. Highly recommend uzbeki food lovers to check out this spot.
I was first time today and got lagman with bread. Lagman was really tasty
The ambiance is calm, but definitely higher scale. I had selected cheburek and manti because these are filling dishes. The staff are knowledgeable and provided clean utensils and plates as I awaited meal preparation which was not daunting at all. With that said, I had also ordered pilav, but I had taken this meal to-go as it was a sufficient portion for later. The manti was cooked evenly and the sour-cream produced a pleasant taste that was not too distinguishing with the savory/salty mantis. The cheburek was hot and crispy with a reasonable quantity of meat filling. The cheburek acquired an airy texture with slightly peppery/savory flavor. I had poured the included sauce onto the chebureki as it was tangy with slight sour/spicy undertones. The compote was notable because I was given the option of it in a pitcher rather than a singular cup since I was quite dehydrated at the time. The compote was in fact refreshing as it was mildly sweet/bitter (in a good way). The customer service was excellent because I exited the restaurant without the remaining food, but it had been retained by staff and the employee kindly notified me about it when I returned. I later discovered that the pilaf was prepared with large proportions of carrots and was evenly textured with a moderate savory/meat stock flavor, but it was not oily. I would return to this restaurant again because of the accommodating staff and enjoyable foods.
Simple review: Get any shish kebab/shashlik as well as the Qurutob. I usually don 't write a review so quickly for a place but they deserve all the publicity so I figured I 'd add it a little bit sooner than normal. They appear to have mostly Google reviews which is not surprising. Anyway, this is an Uzbek/Tajik spot which apparently is in the same space as Chorsu Samarkanda (which for some reason is listed as still open on Yelp. While you can find a few Uzbek restaurants (primarily Kosher but a few others, this is probably the only Tajik spot I know of as Cafe Dushanbe in Sheepshead closed a good while ago. I was here with four others. The staff was nice though I would recommend if you were to order in English to go with the older man though he appears to take care of most of the tables. The price were very reasonable overall (outside of the Russian/Turkish dishes on the menu and the food was fantastic. It 's currently BYOB with a selection of Georgian lemonades (Natakhtari brand as well as homemade compote (which is only by pitcher at $7.95. in terms of the menu I 'll be listing by section in order of preference. Salads/appetizers: Qurtof/Qurutob/Kurutob: Torn bread (non, tomatoes, cucumbers, fried onions, jalapenos, yogurt dressing. While one of the national dishes of Tajikistan along with plov, it is rather hard to find this dish. This is a warm delicious salad with a fun mix of textures. This was better than the version at Dushanbe having just fresher vegetables and a better mix overall and I would highly recommend it. Qutab/Kutaba/Kootabi- Flat pancakes stuffed with greens and served with sour cream: I have previously had this several times and it is usually stuffed with herbs (occasionally with meat. I usually find this dish to have a very strong unique herb flavor but here there appeared to be a lot more spinach. I was surprised but I found the spinach worked well here even though I wasn 't expecting it. Salad Tashkent- Daikon veal tongue salad w/crispy onions, egg, and mayo: I have had this dish at a lot of other similar places. As with basically everywhere else, it was tasty but perhaps there was a little bit too much mayo compared to some places. Manti-lamb dumplings with sour cream: These were tasty dumplings. The lamb filling was a little bit less rich than other places though perhaps this was a regional difference as there just wasn 't as much fat. Kebabs/Shashlik and Mains: The first three listed all came together with some onions with sumac as per the usual along with the tomato sauce found all over Central Asia. Veal liver: This was in particular outstanding being perfectly soft but not too much so with a wonderful texture and a whole lot of flavor. I 'm not sure who the chef is back there but props for having the best veal liver kabobs I 've ever had. Nothing too funky and just perfect in every way. Lulya: This is also very good being just as good as the better Azeri/Uzbek spots I have been to. Very tender ground lamb (not listed but I presume it was lamb with enough fat to add flavor but not too much. Lamb chunks: Also very good and tender. I would also recommend if you 're not a fan of offal. Salmon: This was grilled along with some red peppers and it was served with a refreshing little salad as well as a different sauce. In the beginning thanks to other spots, I thought the sauce was going to be pomegranate molasses but it turned out to be teriyaki of all things. It was a bit baffling seeing this but the salmon itself was cooked well. Beef Stroganoff- Beef stew with one side (mashed potatoes: This was one of the just alright dishes. The meat was very tender and the sauce was nice and rich but I would recommend other things here. Perhaps if here to appeal to the local area but I wouldn 't recommend it much. Turkish Style Liver Cubes: As with the kabob, the liver was tender but if you want liver, just go with the latter as it just makes sense for flavor and portion. I found it to be a bit overpriced compared to everything else. See the
