Tl;dr: Its fine to have a per-person minimum policy, but not if they tell you after you've sat and ordered. A hidden gem in upper west side, the ambience is one of a kind and the food is good too

This place is special. Great date spot or just to hang out with friends. Lycheetini is good, and I recommend getting the mixed grill. Their valentines day meal was also really good with risotto.

We had a great night at Shalel. The ambiance was cozy, rustic, and genuine. The hostess was kind to accommodate our tardiness to our reservation and Jamie was an excellent waitress who gave us great recommendations in navigating the menu. Intimate setting that is unlike that of any restaurant I’ve been to in NYC. Spinach pies were 10/10.
