Carmelita's Mexican Grill

Stopped in for lunch. They are very busy because all the non local flower viewing visitors so be patient. But all of the staff were super sweet!! Also note they closed between 2-4 pm for a dinner reset. However, we got our name on the list wait was about 25 minutes to get an outdoor table for 2 with our pup Lucca. Alright now that's out of the way.. the food. Yummmm. Really hot, fresh and delicious. We ordered a bean, cheese and rice burrito and chicken fajitas. We shared these two items and it was very filling. The flour tortillas seem to be handmade and were mmmm mmmm good, really soft. The salsa is also note able, it's got a good kick. We also ordered two large Cadillac Margs. Woah! They were strong and delicious. Had me feeling really giggly. Order a water too if you're driving anytime soon after leaving. Enjoy and be kind to the staff!

Two of us for morning breakfast on a weekday. Ordered two Breakfast burritos, one as is and one with chorizo. With two coffees, one was served with a lipstick stained cup. Quickly replaced, not the end of the world. The burritos were good, the chorizo was a good addition served with a side of salsa. The cafe was pleasant with mexican style decor with outdoor tables available.

The food here is truly authentic Mexican cuisine and absolutely excellent. The portions are generous, and the service is very attentive. I had the best skinny margarita I've ever tasted!

As for the ambiance, the outdoor patio was quite pleasant and quieter compared to the noisy indoor setting, and the restroom was clean. The chips and salsa were decent, but overall, the food was just okay—nothing exceptional, though it was served hot. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this restaurant due to the poor service.

We discovered Carmelita's by chance during our visit, and it was our first time dining there. The restaurant is cozy, so the tables fill up quickly. There was only one waitress attending to nearly 15 tables, but she managed it all with an impressive efficiency and a warm smile! The chips and salsa were fantastic—the salsa had a delightful spice to it, and the chips were wonderfully flaky, freshly made every morning. We tried the Cadillac margaritas, which come in two sizes, and they were simply delicious. The guacamole was fresh, chunky, and incredibly tasty. Our combo plates were also delightful. We’ll definitely make Carmelita’s a must-visit on our next trip to Borrego Springs!
