New Ivanhoe - Blackheath

A friend of mine recommended this place to me, namely because he had grown up in the area, and that they had a really cheap pool table. Well, unfortunately I'm not the sort of person that really knows how to, or is particularly interested in, playing pool by myself, but I do have to admit that it certainly was quite a cheap table (in fact it seems as if they hadn't increased the price in decades). Mind you, the problem was that they really didn't have a huge selection of beers, which was a bit of a shame for a pub that is located in such a nice old building, in a place that is rather touristy. Still, to counter that, the service was actually pretty good, and they did have a rather nice beer garden as well.

I didn't knows what's wrong with the other reviewers but the Ivanhoe is great. Firstly didn't bother ordering anything except their pies that goes for vegos too, they've got is covered too. The exception is when they're doing hot rock night I which case hey there hot rock because hot rock anywhere is awesome unless you're s complete clown.

Don 't go here! Not sure if it was just a bad day for the lady taking orders for food, but wow. Then to top it off, one of our beef burgers had some fish pieces clearly scrapped off the fryer with the patty. I heard someone say the pies were ok.

This will forever go down in history as the worst restaurant food I have ever had. Literally I will be comparing this to every meal I eat in the future and thanking god it is at least better than that one time in Blackheath. Bring on Aunt Margie's pigeon pies next Thanksgiving! They will be much better than whatever meat I just choked down. I pray to god that what I consumed about 30 minutes ago passes through my body quickly allowing my salt levels to go back to a reasonable value. I want to stand out front with my video camera to capture all of the unsuspecting diners as they encounter the same experience as me. I was sure that I was being pranked. I wish all of those brave dining souls good luck. Oh yeah and I hear the pies are good.

Look, the pies are pretty good. It's true. But I get the impression the staff don't really want customers. At least not tourists. When the lady selling pies tells you she just needs you to wait a couple of minutes, and in the meantime goes back to her conversation with someone else behind the counter... or when you come back to collect the order and she says just wait a minute while I serve Barry here (behind me in the line) and has a good old natter about how he came in yesterday and she wasn't there but what did he order and how was it... forget it. Locals only. Visitors not wanted. Go around the corner to the other pie shop, or the patisserie across the road.
