Otway Artisan Gluten Free - BIRREGURRA

Otway Artisan is located in the old bank building on the Main Street in Birregurra. The setting is great, coffee is delicious and the bread is amazing (you wouldn't even know its gluten free!). Delicious. Well done.

Situated in the middle of the Main Street of the quaint rural town Birregurra, is this surprising gluten free bakery and cafe oozing style. Excellent artisan bread baked daily. Gluten free cakes whilst not baked here are made locally and are even a picture to look at. If you find gluten free food tasteless as a lot of it is you are in for a real surprise and treat. Recommend the white chocolate raspberry and almond cake and the lemon and pistachio muffin cake. Both just simply delicious. Good coffee. Salad rolls on offer looked very inticing but we had not long eaten a late breakfast. Will go back very soon for more bread and try not to eat any more cakes....

Fresh bread and great coffee. Pleasant and delightful. Loafs and treats freshly made on site. Full of locals on a Sunday morning.

Delicious gluten free pizza base and bread and the owner was so much fun. We had lunch here felt welcome and the pizza was good.

Driving home to Melbourne, need some lunch. And it's a hot day! Saw the array of shops in the main street, - pizza (too hot), restaurant (just want something light) - here's something new - Otway Artisan - let's try this one. Saw the sign, Gluten free, but just thought, "Oh well, they sell gluten free, but they'll also have something for me, for sure!". Ordered a chicken salad roll, cold drink and coffee and waited. It was well worth waiting for!! The salad roll was just delicious, enough to eat on a hot day, and served inside, in the cool. Friendly staff and owner - learning that this was the original Colonial Bank (as he said - an old bank makes a great bakery!). Discovered photos and plans of the original on the wall, saw the old heavy door leading to the old strongroom. High ceilings, pleasant inside and COOL!And learnt that ALL they make is gluten free - well, what a pleasant surprise and my old prejudices quickly dismantled!! I was tempted to buy some of the bread rolls for sale!The owner told us that they've just been there 4 months, supplying the local area with all things gluten free - well I hope that they are there for many years to come.
