I tried the chicken and sausage gumbo, accompanied by shoe-string fries, and it was fantastic. The service was excellent, and I didn't have to wait at all for dining in. The atmosphere is enjoyable too. However, parking can be a challenge since it's only available on the street. I will definitely be coming back!
What truly matters to me is the food. I dined there a few years back after hearing it was ranked as the 4th best Cajun restaurant in the country. Lately, I've heard some people say it's not as good as it used to be—has there been a change in ownership? I hope that's not the case. Regardless, I had the catfish Tchoupitoulas and bread pudding during my visit, and it was the best lunch I've ever had! I've been eager to return many times, but there are a couple of obstacles: 1. My wife isn't a fan of Cajun cuisine. I can't fault you for that, but just for her, I’d have to give you a 1-star review—maybe even a 2-star rating. However, that doesn’t take away from my overall experience, which is still a solid 5 stars! 2. Your hours are frustrating! Every time I'm in town alone and craving your food, you seem to be closed. For that, I’d rate your hours as 0 stars. I would think maintaining your impressive reputation would encourage you to extend your hours. I understand there may be reasons for this, but it would obviously enhance the experience if you could accommodate more diners. Also, it would be great if you could offer some beers!
Catfish Tchoupitoulas is amazing! The crawfish étouffée was absolutely perfect, and my friend's catfish had a crispy coating that was seasoned to perfection. My wife ordered the All That Jazz Po' Boy, and she loved it so much that she said she could eat another one! To top it all off, they sent us home with a couple of beignets. We definitely plan to return the next time we visit my sister-in-law!
When you order you'll usually find Stacy behind the counter. Photos is Fried Green tomato BLT, hush puppies, fries. Desert was fried Banana Pudding. All of it was DELICIOUS. Stacy is always welcoming really puts the place on the map for me. She has great recommendations.
Fried Oysters were the best I've eaten since living back in Boston. Very nice lady at the counter. Very impressed. The chips were yummy too. Worth every penny.
