The beer was well looked after and I enjoyed a few Schultheiss with my meal which was freshly cooked and tasty. They have a good selection on the menu so they really cater for everyone. On the Saturday evening there were 5 of us and we had not booked anywhere but this was near the hotel. Initially they could not take us as they were expecting a large party. We were disappointed and stood at the bar enjoying a beer when the man in charge told us he could squeeze us in on a table in a few minutes. We were very well looked after and had an excellent evening. No starter for me but my companions did and they all enjoyed what they had. They all opted for the steak and had different sauces. The fillet were very good and they all cleared their plates. I had the schnitzel which I enjoyed. Desserts and coffees followed. As the place whitened down we moved to a larger table so we could spread out a bit. We had a few bottles of the Chianti and beers and more coffees. The atmosphere is very relaxed. The staff were all very nice and nothing was too much trouble. We all certainly had a good evening which we thought was doomed because we had not booked. Let that be a lesson to me. I will most definitely be back when I visit Berlin in the future. Many thanks to all the staff for two most enjoyable visits. We'll be back.
Location is great. Service is Fast and friendly. The house wine is avarage. The prices are low but the food is below Berlin avarage.
We were heading to the wonderful Old pub Max Und Moritz and decided to drop into here for a quick drink as this restaurant looked very interesting. The interior of Stiege is superb, tableclothed tables, eclectic decor on the wall's,a dark wooden serving bar with plenty of seating options both inside and outside looking out onto the busy Oranienstraße. As we had just ate in the previous restaurant we were only here for some beer's and chose that most Berlin of beer's namely Schultheiss beer and this delicious beer was served in tip top condition being iced cold and sparkling with a foamy head,it really is a very tasty beer.We just chilled out and soaked up the great vibe in this busy and popular restaurant. Although I cannot comment on the meal's in here as we were only here for some beer's the meal's leaving the kitchen looked and smelt delicious and on our next holiday to Berlin we are most certainly going to revisit here to sample the menu. We really enjoyed our beer's before we moved on but we had a great time. Very easy to locate by jumping the U8 Ubahn down to stop Moritzplatz were you walk down Oranienstraße were you will find Stiege in an area packed with pubs, bars and restaurants. Opening hours are,11.30am till 1am. A great traditional restaurant and one I highly recommend you visit if your in the area.
Hubby and I stumbled across this restaurant after being sent in its direction from the staff of the marriott courtyard, who told us there were several good restaurants in its area. Pit was getting dark, and to be honest we did not feel too safe, this part of eastern Berlin was not very nice, lots of vagrants, teach, graffiti, etc. just when we were about to give up on finding a decent place to eat that took credit cards (many places did not) we came across Stiege and sat outside on the quiet side by the few other diners there. I am not sure how to categorize the cuisine, it seems to offer a bit of everything, and the menu was large and ambitious. I decided to play it safe and ordered one of the "chefs specialities" a grilled chicken breast served with noodles In a creamy lemon sauce. The food was tasty, if a bit too saucy,I would ask for the sauce on the side. It was a decent dish for 9 or so euros. Hubby ordered a beef kufta, minced steak patty in a tomato sauce with sliced roasted potatoes on topped served in a clay dish and served with something similar to naan bread. Staff was pleasant and service good. Total meal cost 38 euros, with 2 entrees, a side salad, 2 beers, 1 wine and 1 bottle of water.
We ate here as a family as we lodged around the corner. The place is located on the Western edge of the Oranienstrasse part of Kreuzberg -- walking further West will get into the no-man's land of the former West-Berlin housing projects along the Wall. Stiege is ok -- the food is reasonably priced and does the trick while lacking any special appeal that would make this a "target" destination. Good service, good local beer by the pitcher and a longish menu should satisfy most.
