Austria Das Original - Berlin

After 3 long years we were excited to return to this restaurant which we had been frequenting for 10+ years. Unfortunately, things have changed. Although we made a reservation 2 weeks in advance, the host/waiter gave us the worst table in the restaurant, next to...the bar and in the line for the kitchen. There was constant traffic back and forth which made it feel like being tossed on a boat! When the waiter came to take our order, he said: You want schnitzel, I guess? yes, ok. Our beers arrived and literally 10 minutes later, so did the entrees! It was like fast food! The schnitzel was served alone on a white plate with two slices of lemon on top. The potato salad and cucumber salad were served together in a small bowl on the side! Absolutely nothing special and definitely no Austrian coziness. The salt and pepper shakers on the table looked like a throwback to the DDR! And although there were candles on every table, the entire restaurant was brightly lit. No one from the staff checked in with us during our meal (and they were not that busy) and after around 40 minutes the painful experience was over. When we declined to leave a tip, our waiter looked very disappointed and just said Ciao. The waiter was not rude, but even worse: indifferent! Hopefully, this was an off night for the restaurant, but we will not be returning to find out. The food was average and there are too many new and interesting places to try for Austrian cooking in Berlin! Sorry, but obviously things change.

I went for the first time to this place and I will back for sure. We ate Schnitzels and there was perfect! You can cut them just using your fork. The staff is lovely, so kind and attentive, also before to go there, I called...them to ask if my reservation it was ok, and the person that answered it was really nice. Prices are honest, according to the quality. The place is like an old school restaurant, you feel at home.

Great place with cosy informal atmosphere. Great Austrian original food. The meat dishes are very high quality. The staff friendly and of course the beer is tasty. Certainly will come back here.

Berlin is in holiday mode and parking is possible almost everywhere. it was the real reason for our departure today to the Chamisso Church. Austria was unknown until now, that would mean something. until 17 o'clock the day card is valid with friendly travel. we both decided for the small white carving and a spray, that is of course everyone. I would have had to bet my organic baker's letter that there is always Austria and that I have eaten there too times from wall and stabbed wire. the gastronomy is like the house, there on the corner Bergmann-Heimstraße, unattended and with patina. dark, smoked from old smoker times, with whirlpool and Austrian bier ads from the last century. in this contrast, sometimes artists and students lived. after the house occupations, the chamissioplatz was first renovated over a large area. westberlin has made herself beautiful for the 750-year-old celebration. the kiez was presented and the kiez has changed its character. higher rents have paid the now established old-68s and they are still living there, well alimated and now, as a gray wolf, with the fixie on the leap. the road, in front of Austria, on the ground, which is also a one-way road. for these gourmets the Austria was created, solid gas friendship with understatement. that was a special and berlin still lukullic development area in 1993. they cannot be deceived from the first impression, here the hungry gastfreundschaft expects good gastfreundschaft, with a little bit of awe-sweet and decent alpine cuisine, too fair. from the 14-day changing menu I could always eat everything and there is also everything they liked on the Austrian cuisine. as the ösi would say, of course, also has the crying from all wine-growing areas. Of course, there are also liquid fruits and, and, and highly recommended, now also with small, inexpensive day menu. for the evening absolutely reservation, spontaneous visit is hardly possible.
