Hungry Bear Cafe - Beaver

This is a charming local greasy spoon. The ladies are sweet and kind. The food is delicious. It was one of the few places open before 10am on a weekday. Portions are more than generous. Pancakes are the size of a plate. The bacon was perfectly cooked- just crispy enough. The hash browns looked like they were hand riced and yummy, too. Cool old logging photos on the walls add to the local flair. If you want the speed of one of the logging trucks zooming past, may not be the stop for you. If you are looking for a little gem that others may miss, pull over and have a coffee.

We stopped here for an early dinner after a long day of driving and hiking. There was one waitress and she told us we could seat ourselves and she'd be right with us. She was very nice she even suggested we switch tables to a warmer area when she noticed I was cold. I ordered the Bears Den sandwich with the homemade soup (vegetable beef). I asked for no mayo and just Swiss cheese instead of Swiss and American. Like others have said, the portions are very generous! I thought everything tasted good. My only gripe was with the cheese. It felt and tasted like kraft singles cheese (yuck) and in two different parts of the sandwich I found hair on the cheese?? They were small/short, but definitely made me lose my appetite a little bit. I was so hungry from not having real food all day that I ended up pulling all the cheese off the sandwiches and still eating it. Also, once we got our food, our waitress was much less attentive in refilling our waters and such. We had to flag her down after 15 minutes to get boxes and the check. Because of the hair situation, I'm not sure I'd return. But it's definitely a convenient location driving from Ruby Beach to Port Angeles.

This place feels like home with great locals and awesome food! The pancakes are huge and to die for. Bacon is yummy and eggs are real eggs. What more could you ask for? They also add some flair to the coffee staples you'd expect a country joint like this to have so if vanilla lattes are your thing, they got them. I can't remember the lady who served me but she was clearly a crowd favorite (maybe biased by her grandkids but still...: and gave me some great tips about the area. I'll be back next time I'm in the area.

This restaurant was fantastic. The server was incredibly friendly and managed our large group effortlessly. The portions were very generous, and the French fries were delicious. I’m not sure what other reviewers were talking about when they said the fries weren't good. Since there were many of us, we sampled a variety of dishes. I will definitely come back if I'm in the area again.
