Ben Bill's Chocolate Emporium

The vegan ice creams and shakes made with oat or almond milk were absolutely delicious. The blueberry ice cream was outstanding. It's common for places to only offer sorbet as vegan options, but I was pleasantly surprised to find five different actual ice creams available during our visit.

I’ve been on the hunt for a vegan waffle cone for quite a while. The cone and the ice cream were both excellent, but I found it quite expensive—$13.50 for just one scoop in a waffle cone. The prices are a bit all over the place, and there’s so much to take in that you might not even notice the cost right away. I wish I had read the reviews beforehand to prepare for the steep price. It’s a good idea to ask for samples because the mint chip flavor was a bit overpowering, and I would have been really disappointed to pay that much for something I didn’t enjoy. On the plus side, the chocolate and vanilla flavors were fantastic! Updated from a previous review on June 7, 2024.

This place offers six different vegan ice creams and vegan cones! Our favorites were the blueberry and the Caribbean coconut flavors. They also had signs promoting vegan milkshakes and cookies. We visited two other ice cream shops in Bar Harbor, but one only had sorbet while the other didn't have any vegan options at all. So, we decided to stick with Ben & Bill's, which definitely seemed the most vegan-friendly option by a long shot.

Had the most horrible experience of my vegan life. This shop has non-English speaking servers who dont understand “vegan”. When I asked for their vegan options, i was given a spoon of their lobster icecream to taste! And this was not even the worst part! Instead of being apologetic, I was even charged for a bottle of water. DON’T GO IN HERE IF YOU’RE VEGAN.

At least 6 vegan ice cream flavors and a vegan waffle cone! We tried the vegan blueberry in the vegan waffle cone and were amazed made with a ton of real blueberries not fake food coloring. It’s the real deal. So delicious and worth every outrageous penny of the cost $13.50 for a single in the waffle cone). We had visited once before two years ago and were happy to see they are now offering more flavors. The place is mostly a candy store walk through with the vegan ice cream options at the very end so when you go in look to your right in the freezer and you’ll see the vegan choices before going all the way around.
