A family friend had invited us out to yum cha lunch at Gold Garden Dim Sum Seafood BBQ Chinese Restaurant in Balcatta. It's funny, but we eat more yum cha in Australia with family than we do in HK, where yum cha is from. The quality of dim sum was pretty good at Gold Garden, though there were a couple of items that had already sold out by the time we tried to order, like the egg tarts. Our friends did all the ordering and paying, so I cannot comment on the pricing.
An unexpected Dim Sum surprise! The location is a little random and the decor is uninspired however, the Dim Sum itself are delicious! The dumplings are all generously filled with quality produce actual prawns rather than prawn meat mixed with lard which is the usual fare at most Dim Sum restaurants. The BBQ pork buns were huge and the filling delicious, the shanghai dumplings and siu mai are so so tasty, crispy squid tentacles and aromatic jasmine tea. Some of the best Dim Sum I've tried in Perth service is a little lacklustre and it is certainly a lot more expensive than others in Northbridge (I figure its supply and demand) but I'll be back.
Food was the best quality dim sum I've had in perth so far. The only down fall was how long it takes to get some service around here. It's also one of the most expensive dim sums in perth
We went on Sunday morning for their dim sum. Food were below average. We ordered 3 selections of dim sum from the menu due to the limited selection from their food stroller. Waiter only remembered half of the order. They are constantly talking in Cantonese and have minimal care for their customer. Place is really warm and stuffy. Zero care were given about the room temperature and customer comfort. Food were below par, pork bun was thick with flour and the filling is tasteless, char Leong was salty and the wrapping was horribly done, shanghai dumpling is dry and badly done. Worst of all the price is ridiculously expensive. 6 dishes with 2 of them as porridge (small bowl) cost us close to 40 dollars. Poor service, below par food, above average price. Will not recommend this dim sum place.
