When we opened the coffees outside to add sugar, we found that they looked more like Americanos with added milk - there was no frothed milk or crema. I didn't want to pay nearly £7 for something I didn't order; it seemed like a pretty standard customer service issue. I returned the drinks to the counter and explained to the woman serving (who turned out to be the owner) that I didn't receive what I had ordered. She insisted that the drinks were correct and even showed me a coffee chart to explain. Despite her training, I couldn't see any foam on the drinks unless it was so micro that it was invisible. Reluctantly, she began to make new ones but her attitude and rudeness became too much for me, so I asked for a refund instead. Although I remained polite throughout the encounter, as I was leaving, she sarcastically told me to enjoy - not in a friendly manner, but to further aggravate the situation. As a local, I won't be returning to Java, which is a shame because the location is great. If you're looking for good coffee and decent service, I recommend going to Coast Coffee at the other end of the promenade in town, or The Salty Bean in Sandbank, across from the Western ferries. You might even get better coffee and service from the Costa coffee machine at the petrol station.
I have two children, one in high school and the other in primary. Last week, my wife had a day off work from Walkers, so we decided to treat ourselves and go to the waterfront for some coffee. We brought our dog along and ordered a latte for my wife and a tea for myself. It was a bit expensive, but it was enjoyable! After walking around Kirn with our dog and drinks for a few minutes, we drove back home. I'm not a coffee person myself, but they had a nice selection of coffees to choose from. Next time we have a day off together, we might bring the kids since I saw they also sell ice cream.
The food at this restaurant is typically good and the staff are usually helpful. However, yesterday I waited in line outside for 25 minutes only to be told when I reached the front that they were no longer taking orders and I would not be served. The service was slow, with only one person being served at a time. It would have been helpful if the staff had recognized the forming queue outside and informed us that we would not be served by the time we reached the front. Despite waiting in line from 3:25 to 3:50, we were ultimately turned away as it was close to closing time.
This wee place is very cramped and the outside seating is a joke, sorry but the coffee is not good either!
I called in on a sunny, but chilly day. The coffee shop is tiny, but very quaint. The lady behind the counter was friendly, and the prices seem very reasonable. I had a bacon roll and a cup of tea. The roll was full of crispy bacon and the tea nice and strong. There were various puzzles, and gift items for sale. My favourite part was when an elderly man came in with his huge dog. They were both given a warm welcome, and a bowl of water was provided for the dog. It all added to the warm and relaxed atmosphere. I passed by later on and another man was there with his large dog. I am sorry that I only found this little gem on the last day of my holiday.
