Cedar Knoll - Alexandria

It was a birthday celebration booked two weeks in advance. Several calls to talk with someone about a fixed or limited menu for the party of eight were never returned. Drinks took a long time to arrive. The appetizer of two dozen oysters arrived six at a time over a 30-minute period. The prawns and scallops were served without the rice and bokchoy. The dinner took over three hours and some of the party with small children had to leave before their dinner was finished. It was not a good dining experience.

Great experience! Service extremely professional and efficient; food was delicious. Added bonus was the Bald Eagle flying by as we looked out the window.

We have visited Cedar Knoll every year for the past couple of years for their amazing Oyster stew. However, this year was different as the value and price $38) did not align or match up with the quantity. This soup is typically served in a grand bowl and normally is filled to the top or close to the top with a presentation that would warm your heart and make your mouth water. My experience this year was the exact opposite and underwhelming. The bowl wasn’t event filled half way; it seemed to be between 1/2 to 1/3 of a cup full, which should’ve never been allowed to leave the kitchen. I did raise this with our waiter who was awesome and they attempted to reconcile by bringing out more broth in a tea cup which was even more disappointing. This dish was unfortunately not worth the price this year. I hope that Cedar Knoll addresses this concern for future customers, including myself, as this is one of my favorite restaurants and this is one of the most popular dishes on the menu. I was disappointed in the pork chop. 4 others seemed to like their dishes well enough. Long wait for food and minimal though pleasant) service. Pricey food but the taste didn't merit it. $40-$60/person, no alcohol, appetizers or desserts consumed.

I've been to Cedar Knoll a couple times with friends and family over the years and its overall been nice. My last visit was unfortunately disappointing. The service and ambience remains good, but the quality and value of the food has declined based on our most recent visit. I hope they improve, but it may be awhile before I consider visiting again if at all.
