Contribuiți la feedbackWe spent one night in Monsanto and our hotel recommended Petiscos Granitos as supposedly the only restaurant opened that evening. I made a booking for 2 persons for 7pm and Renato confirmed our reservation. Upon arriving, the restaurant was virtually empty with only one table occupied. There was a lady sitting in the corner who ,we figured out, was the owner. She did not welcome us and when we said we had a reservation she could not care less! She was basically rude and we felt we were bothering her so we decided to leave. Right across the alley we found a newly opened restaurant Casa da Gruta which was far more welcoming. We ended up dining there and chatted with a local couple who had the same experience as we did! You are warned!
Honestly we weren’t planning on eating here during our day trip to Monsanto but my god it was amazing. Super great service above and beyond and the food was out of this world. I had the sliced steak and my wife had the black pork. The view is stunning honestly what more could a person want!
This was one of the few places open on a Monday, and they reviews made me a little wary, but wah? This place was fantastic! The lamb chops were pure perfection! The black pork was also delicious! Both dishes came with fries and delicious rice sprinkled with olives. For dessert we tried a local dish called papas de carolo, which was a little like flan but used corn meal. It was sprinkled with cinnamon and was absolutely delicious. We had asked our very friendly waiter for recommendations the whole time and he did not lead us astray. I would say this is one of the top meals I’ve had in Portugal. The ambiance is cute, too, with the boulders coming through the walls. I hope more people come here and give it good reviews, I think its current rating is way too low.
