Zwickau

GDay I am fortunate to be in a relationship with a great woman from Zwickau, Germany. I'm Australian so I'll give you here what I see as different and why Ive grown to love visiting which is about every 6 months.Firstly of course I love being around my partner, but lets just say my first few days on my first trip which was in winter was an education in managing the cold and she got me setup very quick. I big coat, hat, gloves and boots are a must. Now despite that I did my first xmas market without any of the above but loved it. Ive never seen such a high spirited and friendly community enjoying itself like this before and of course, what Aussie guy doesn't like a braetwurst in a roll and mulled wine. Ive since learnt through further seasons that the menu is far more diverse and just as good. Anyway, Zwickau xmas market is a must do. And, black beer. Zwickau has a history as a former township in the old DDR. The people are generally quite humble which is not a bad thing these days, having travelled parts of the world and seen otherwise. Family life here is very important and people work hard and honestly.Zwickau is surrounded by countryside and now boasts a major VW assembly plant but the town is historically a coal mining community.Its quiet here and a good walk through the town and streets in standard. And there is an obvious interest in fitness and good local sports clubs. There is enough to do here to stay entertained and enough commerce to get what you need for yourself and the home. Larger cities such as Leipzig and Dresden are under two hours away by car, so if you want more you can get more. *see my previous review on Leipzig Zoo)Right now there is one thing Im looking forward to ...... Fireworks at New Years Eve which on my first visit here was a total surprise as fireworks are banned for public use where I come from.My first new years here I was quickly taken back to my childhood in Melbourne where every cross street or family group had their own fireworks display. the coverage of Zwickau that night was amazing and I expect same in a few days.Im getting involved !!!More ... next year. Sitting and drinking in the pedestrian zone. here there are delicious Italian-cracked cakes and good ice-cream cups. The drinks offered are versatile.Very recommended.
