Beach Club Thumersbach - Zell am See

The restaurant is on the sunny side of the lake directly on the shores. So, this is perfect. The service? Not really. Caffe Latte served with sour milk, when mentioned, nothing was offered instead. The waiter claimed that is the normal taste of such a drink and even tasted it and said this was normal. Well, I had Cafe Latte at many places, it tasted similar once: when it was also served with sour milk. Alongside other items we also ordered an ice-cream for my for-year-old that never arrived. Well, he was not very pleased with that, me neither. Lucky, he could eat my Magnum: highlight of the visit! All in all, it was a great disappointment.

We were surprised to come here one warm evening and sit down straight away since, despite the humid sun and showery weather, there were a lot of people at the lido next door and lounging by the lake. We actually turned back having travelled on to Zell Am See, as this was so much quieter, more pleasant, and less 'consumerist' than Zell, with stunning views too as you are seated right next to the lake (see pic). The food I would describe as European/Far Eastern and tasty, without being gourmet or over fussy. Certainly large portions. They also provide blankets for those changeable evenings in July when you just can't be sure of the weather. Bizarrely it rained at one point, even though we were in bright sunshine, relatively warm, and sitting outside under parasols. All very pleasant.

If the weather is good, even on cold days (there are blankets on each seat) this is a very nice place to spend, looking across the lake, having a tasty lunch or sipping hot chocolate or coffee. Recommended.

I've been coming to Zell am See for years and I always thought that it lacks a nice restaurant or a cafe right on the lake. Beach club in Thumersbach is a small place with good food. I've been there a few times this spring and had different soups (carrot, orange and ginger was excellent) and burgers which were very tasty, too. I had ice cream once and they were generous with chocolate topping. But the best part is the view to die for!!! Sometimes the swans swim right past the restaurant and that is lovely to watch. It is away from main road so there is no traffic noise. I've only been there in nice and sunny weather so that I could sit outside in the sun, they have some sofas outside - super to lounge in the sun and admire mountains and the lake. Will be definitely back.
