Klasterni Restaurace - Zeliv

I had a problem with the portion size at this restaurant, so I opted for a quick soup for 75 Kč. The soup was quite thick and the broth overflowed onto the table. I can't say it was better than homemade soup made with fresh ingredients. The vegetables were undercooked and the soup lacked flavor and freshness. It seemed like they used a broth cube to make it, which was disappointing.

This restaurant is a delightful spot located next to the brewery in the old monastery area of town. We were pleasantly surprised by a delicious white chocolate dessert.

To start off, unfortunately there are some negatives that need to be addressed. When you order your food, you are left waiting with nothing to do in the meantime. Even when the waiter brings out the soup, you realize that there are no utensils provided to eat with. It is quite frustrating not to have cutlery readily available on the table. The chicken soup was a letdown, with an artificial taste and overcooked chicken pieces. The lack of attention to detail continued with the main course, beef in wine, which was excellent but the experience was marred by the lack of consistency in service. The disappointment carried on with the coffee service, as it was served with cold milk instead of steamed. It seems that the staff may need some additional training on basic serving skills and attention to detail.

After almost a year, we revisited the restaurant in the Želiv monastery with the hope that something would have changed. Unfortunately, nearly everything remains the same. The food was served cold, and the staff still struggles to pour a proper beer! (I truly feel for the brewmaster because the beer itself is otherwise excellent. It’s also disappointing that beer isn’t poured with a proper beer tap… The service was chaotic, and I’d rather not comment on some of their loud outbursts. Nearby competition offers a similar experience. It’s truly a shame. Otherwise, the unique setting provides a pleasant atmosphere and beautiful landmarks.

About a year later, we visited the restaurant in the Želiv monastery again with the expectation that something had finally changed. Unfortunately, almost everything is still the same. We got the food cold, the staff can't always tap beer! (I really feel sorry for the brewer, because the beer is otherwise perfect. And nothing at all about the fact that the beer is not tapped with a baroque tap... Better not to comment on the chaos of the staff and some of their loud expressions. Close competition is quite similar. A real shame. Otherwise, a unique environment with a pleasant atmosphere and beautiful monuments.
