Amazing burgers and steak and cheese hoagies ! At a price that can't be beat.
Alright, I just want to say that this place is or used to be a staple in the community of Ypsilanti, MI, where I grew up. I can remember a day when it was jam-packed, and it seemed orders were flying in left and right. However, after my recent visit, I was HIGHLY disappointed, dissatisfied, and somewhat discussed with how deplorable they 've allowed themselves to go down. Not go mention, the hussle-bustle business was completely nonexistent. You all truly need a complete overhaul if you 'regoing to stay in business. From the unpleasant rancid old smell of dirty house when first walking in, to it not being clean and or inviting in any way as you walk in. Around the bottom of the bar is tattered trimming and not to be picky, this is an easy fix for a proprietor who takes pride in their business. Let 's next talk about the ice machine or maker that completely looks like you 'll absolutely get sick with some type of bacteria infectious disease if you decide on taking a chance on a fountain drink. I was this close to getting one until I saw that. Gross Howards... Gross! Now to the food. I purchased what I can recall them being well-known for and what 's actually their brand. The cheese steak hoagie. They used to be tasty, packed with juicy meat and cheese. Now, they are tasteless, and there wasn 't much meat there to taste anyway. I ask for my roll to be toasted (grilled). The really nice girl said they couldn 't bc the bread would fall apart??? How?? I just think it was something extra they didn 't want to do to satisfy a paying customer. Overall, the servc was decent. I give that a 4.5 the atmosphere a 1.5 and the food, a 2.4. Please, Howard 's, if you 're going to continue operating with a standard of excellence, try having some pride in your food and the cosmetics of how your restaurant represents you.
Outside of the two pieces of neat looking artwork on the wall, the conditions of the inside of the lobby left a lot to be desired. Which may explain why most people order their food to go. The business was steady which I attribute to the taste and price of food and the person working the register was personable. It appeared only two people were working: one cooking and one at the counter which likely attributed to the 25 minute to half hour wait. They were receptive to special orders: someone asked for mayo on both buns, sautéed onions, burgers well done, and extra everything else which the person behind the counter took in stride. The cook was not wearing a hairnet. The food came out hot which was reassuring considering the state of the lobby area. The fries were unsalted as far as I could tell and the burger wasn't noticeably greasy which I enjoyed. The burger has a seasoning that gave it a little salty flavor. A half pound cheeseburger was 4.50 and quarter pound cheeseburger was 3.50.
Restaurant is dated, food is good, and service was exceptional. If they just cleaned it a lil bit and updated the interior it would be a 5 star.
