Chinese Dumpling House - York

My family and I stopped into CDH, based on online reviews. It's an unassuming place, food is visibly prepared, decor is traditional but no frills, and prices are reasonable. Food was very good. I've had better hot sour soup in other establishments, but this...version was okay. Dumplings are SUPER hot inside! My poor boyfriend burned his lip and chin from the piping hot liquid inside. I advise nipping off dumpling tip, and then allowing the steam to vent out. The lamb dumplings were really flavorful. My son really liked the sweet and sour crispy fish and vegetable and tofu dumplings. My boyfriend really enjoyed deep onion and chive pancake. We would definitely return. Cheers! Hope it helps.

Very affordable, authentic Chinese dumplings! Quick service, good for a fast lunch! It is a little on the small side with limited seating!

One of the best places to go for homemade chinese dumplings. In addition to dumplings (steamed, pan fried, in soup, etc), they have other meat, vegetable and noodle dishes all reasonably priced. Service can be a bit of a challenge as they don't speak English...every well but the menu is in Chinese and English so you just have to point to what you want. I have been there a few times and have had their steamed pork/egg/shrimp dumplings, their steamed vegetable dumplings, their pork pan fried dumplings, their noodles with pork, their hot/sour soup, onion pancake, red bean pancake, eggplant stir fry among others and all were good. It gets very busy over lunch hour so get there early or just after the lunch rush or you will have to wait for a table.

Its fun to watch those ladies making the dumplings as the orders come in. The food is fresh and full of flavors. Many reviews mentioned the bad service with no smile etc, i can tell you that i had a fast, efficient and mostly enjoyable...service. The price is highly competitive and the portions are big!! I can easily say that the hot and sour soup is in my top after having it in Many other restaurants). Only down side, they only take cash! I will definitely go back and i highly recommend it! A must!!

The place is tiny with maybe a dozen small tables, with barely enough room between each table for one person to squeeze past sideways. However, it's always busy which is a good indication of good food and good value. No nice decor here. it's also...noisy so not good for having a private conversation, or to go on a date. Often there is a long lineup that extends outside the door. The menu can be a bit tricky if you don't speak/read Chinese. But there is an alternate menu with some pictures which helps. They make all of their dumplings from scratch, by hand. A couple of ladies are always standing at the front, so you can watch their mastery of the skill of making the dumplings before your eyes! Many good and favourite menu items here. Service is generally fast. They also offer take-out.
