The Blue Fin Fish Chip Shop - York

Not great, family fish and chips for tea. £38 for 2 portions of chips, 2 mushy peas and 4 large fish? The fish was over cooked and dry and very small for a large fish. Chips did not seem fresh. Will not go again.

Used to be really really good was more expensive than average for fish and chips, but really good quality and massive portions, so was worth it. However, the last two orders now when we ordered large cod (over £10 per ‘large’ cod! , what we have received is what they used to class as a small size cod. I know this for sure as we have also ordered small cod before. I complained last time and was told it was because they were training new staff, but it’s clearly not. Unfortunately won’t be using them again as at over £30 for fish and chips, this reduction in value is just not acceptable.

Went in for a Haddock and chips and mushy peas to take away first week of September 2022. Cost £11 the chips were soggy greasy and some raw the fish was Haddock which again was soggy and not crispy. They are not wrapped up properly simply put in a bag with no interior wrapping and grease proof paper. My walk is less then 3 minutes walk away. So they were cold when I got back. I can tell you they must have been cooked in vegeatable oil which simply was not hot enough young guy frying no pride in quality. When this was a Harpers of Wetwang chippy amongst two others in York they were superb shame they sold them and they got rebranded Blue Fin and are run by seperate owners. Total waste of money totally disappointed. People of York why put up with really poor overpriced rubbish. Is it really not hard to supply a hot crispy product not oily trash. I seldom complain or moan but this is a joke. Not happy to say the least. Haddock is better skin on fried in really hot dripping not luke warm vegetable oil just saying…..

We have used this take away in the past, it was good in the past, on this occasion it was really poor. Very small portion, cod and chips and price was expensive. No haddock offered as it would be an extra £3 which all seems crazy. Won’t bother here again.

I went To Blue fin on Monday the 1st of november To Get Myself a large fish and chips as a treat for myself and the workers there we super Jen was excellent as she was super nice and helpful. the fryer made some insane fish witch i would give 10/10 would eat again. there was also a boy in training and he was doing quite good to say he was new. lovely food if you have time to go on any night i would really recommend it! good job!
