Sea Lane Cafe - Worthing

It is a lovely location and always a very busy cafe because of this. It's danish pastries are great. We find the cakes lack flavour. A great variety of drinks and plant milks. Ice cream, including vegan. Traditional menu in terms of food. Freshly cooked fish and chips always reliable. They are planning building to work to restore the view you used to get from inside, which has been blocked by Covid erected marquee.

We have been going to Sea Lane cafe for decades but the recent changes of increased prices, smaller cup sizes and poorer standards of all the food, both in size and quality along with a deterioration in the staff brings this experience to an end. It has never been cheap but we feel that the owners have decided that people will accept and not notice these changes, they are wrong.

Chewy and expensive prawn sandwich . Previously had good experiences but today we popped for lunch and was surprised and disappointed with the chewy and very un fresh seeming prawn sandwich at nearly £10 with a tiny side salad with leaves that were turning . hot drinks very expensive too and the young staff overwhelmingly unprofessional having own chats about personal life , not very personal touch with customers etc . Felt the quality has very much gone down and the amount of young and very immature staff not ideal .

Had excellent fish chips once more at Sea Lane Cafe after a walk beside the sea with a friend. Our orders were taken, our lunch was freshly cooked, was piping hot we did not have to wait very long.

I hate having to write this revue,but I feel I need too. All through the year I have picked up a coffee and often a cake at least 3 to 4 times a week. I have always accepted they are not the cheapest,however ,the quality is second to none. With the 'tourist ' season over,I still intend to carry on my same routine. Last week, I noticed the prices had increased on the coffees,fair enough, businesses have to survive in this economic climate,but today at the kiosk, I was told that the coffee comes in a new size cup, with the old medium size is now a large,and an even smaller cup is now a medium. And to add insult to injury,the lids do not even fit securely in the cups!!! Much as I love the place and the amazing staff,I today walked away feeling 'screwed over '. OK,I 'm not the most profitable customer in the world,but I spend an average £10 to £15 a week,but,sadly no more.
