Visited Red Fox for a birthday treat and chose the Afternoon tea with Prosecco. Stood at the end of the bar until someone took notice and decided to serve us. Taken to a table and our Prosecco arrived immediately, waited a while for the afternoon tea to arrive and then after waiting further had to enquire when we would receive our tea. The sandwiches were at best basic, made from thick white sliced, crusts left on, fillings dry and the ?butter? so thin you needed good eye sight to see any, if at all. Had to ask for some mayo to combat the dryness, but no apology was given. Many of the items did not reflect the menu provided, no Marie Rose sauce with the prawns, no mustard with the ham, no lemon curd in the meringue, fruit toppings were a quarter strawberry and the lemon tart turned out to be carrot cake. We had to ask for more tea as nobody came to ask if all was well during the whole visit. At a cost of £52 we found the whole experience extremely disappointing and would not recommend.
Nice place but only for drinks from now on, each time we visit for a bite to eat it’s a bit disappointing. My wife had the pate to start should have come with toasted bloomer came with bread that had been warmed this was replaced but most places give you a bit of butter. I had the baked camembert this was so baked it was like curdled cream and stuck to the sides of the dish almost like it was microwaved, it should have come with walnuts and celery but for some reason and like other visits something was missing from the dish. For the main mine was actually nice I went for the shoulder of lamb but my wife had the beef and belly pork, she could barely cut through the beef and the belly pork was really dry, with this you got a Yorkshire pudding this was really dry, tasteless probably the worst Yorkshire pudding we have had In all we had two starters, two mains, two pints and a glass of wine all for just over £91 very expensive for the quality, sat for ages for plates to be cleared
The Red Fox. Simply just excellent. This is a delightful country manor pub in Thornton. It comes with lots of charm and a very welcoming atmosphere. The grounds are lovely. There's an open fire in the pub area and a fire pit in the garden room. What's not to love on a chilly day. A great selection of ales on draught and a great food menu to choose from see pictures . Now on to our experience. On arrival, warmly greeted and taken to our seats which was adjacent to the fire pit and was lovely and cosy with a view of the gardens. The waiting staff are so attentive too. Very polite with a good knowledge of the menu. Our meals of choice. For me, wild boar, pork, and parsnip pie in a cider gravy and for my wife seabass with cockle sauce. she does like a seabass dish . Our dishes arrived within 20 minutes and the place was busy. My dish was delicious, the pastry was lovely and light and the meat inside the pie was as tender as you like with a lush cider gravy. If I could give one critique and a very minor one. A little jug of the cider gravy on the side would have been nice as there was a good helping of mashed potato, which is great, but I do like a bit more gravy . My wife said the seabass was exquisite and was cooked to perfection. It was complimented by a lemon potato cake and tenderstem broccoli. She said the sauce was crazy good and wished she had a bread roll to mop it up. For dessert, which was a must. Chocolate chip cheesecake with chocolate sauce. Very decadent and delicious and a mini chocolate brownie that was lovely and gooey with a cappuccino. Overall, this was one of our most enjoyable dining experiences. A place we would most definitely return and would recommend to anyone to go to for a meal or just a drink. So give here a go, you won't be disappointed. A place that has got it right for sure.
