Contribuiți la feedbackWith some reluctance I'm going to review The Village Diner. I've been for breakfast five times. I've not been for lunch or dinner yet. At this point, there is really no reason to go to any other place for breakfast. If Diners, Drive-inns and Dives comes north, this place should be at the top of the list. How can breakfast be so great? Well, for starters there is the home made jam, local product and cool, neighbourhood vibe. That on its own is insufficient for excellence. But how about that when you order the classic breakfast, in addition to local bacon or local farmers sausage you can get bison stew! Crazy. Well, crazy delicious! I'm getting hungry thinking about it. And I just finished dinner. Or how about a brisket omelette! With a drizzle of au jus on top....oh man. If we had capital punishment it would be worth killing a guy just so you could order that for your last meal. And there is the classic Elvis breakfast (you can guess), awesome vegetarian options, beet latkes, and the list goes on. I haven't tried everything but everything I've tried has been top drawer. When I next go out for breakfast there is no choice to be made: I'll go back to The Village Diner! And if there is no room, scootch over and let me pull up a chair!
We were big fans of the food when they were in Osborne village. The food is still amazing and the staff are very helpful. My favourite, the beet and potato latkes, is served with 2 perfectly poached eggs, velvety creme fraiche and generous fresh fruit. Menno omelette was unusual, sauerkraut and cheese, and very tasty. Prices are very reasonable for the ample portions.Loads of parking available in the strip mall or nearby streets.
I visited the Village Diner for the first time and had a difficult time choosing from the options on the menu. I love breakfast and it is served all day; however, I opted for the beet salad and thoroughly enjoyed. The staff were pleasant and chatty, which I also enjoyed, casual atmosphere.Next time, I will try out one of the breakfast dishes. Lots of veggie item as well, and since I'm vegetarian, I appreciate the choices.
The Village Diner has great food ... locally sourced, beautifully imagined and prepared, subtly flavoured. It's a diner, nothing more, but certainly nothing less. So, it's simple, has friendly service, but WOW ... the food is wonderful. I love their breakfasts, but lunches are great too. They pay attention to sustainable food practices, and service fair trade coffee.
We tried this restaurant for breakfast after reading about it in the Winnipeg Free Press. We were not disappointed. We tried the beet and potato latkes and the breakfast wrap. Both were very good. The latkes were served with perfectly poached eggs and a dill sauce which paired very nicely with the beets. The latkes were drier than most potato latkes but delicious. The breakfast wrap was served with stewed bison and scrambled eggs. The bison had a great flavour and texture. Coffee was nicely strong.Service was friendly. We will return.
