Caribbean Island Spice - Windsor

I ran into this place on a humbug, I fell in love, the owner was so nice, she let me and my friends sample the ox tails and jerk chicken, both were amazing !! I mean the chicken was literally falling off the bone and so tender, best jerk chicken I have ever had !!! I wanted to go back to Canada the next day just for that jerk chicken and rice & peas. They were so accommodating. We were staying In Detroit for the Beyoncé concert and decided to drive up to Windsor for the day.

Another one of my monthly restaurants. I love this place! It is takeout, stand up eating area. If your a fan of authentic jerk chicken, curry chicken, stewed beef and ox tail my personal fave are plantains, this is the only place in Windsor to try! You won't be disappointed.

I was raised in Florida with a lot of Caribbean friends so I have a background on what Caribbean food is about. Caribbean Island Spice is a treasure in Windsor, Ontario that reminds me of my childhood. I tried the Jerk chicken and it is so good and spicy (with a seasoning of scotch bonnet peppers). I also suggest to try their Oxtail- really flavourful, succulent meaty oxtail bones with a delicious gravy with rice and beans and a hearty cabbage salad. I read bad reviews about this place but that's just because it's from people who never experienced Caribbean food before. I've been more than three times in this place and still love it! If you want to try out something else from their make sure to ask the cashier, he/she is really helpful. The chef in this place is really talented, you can tell she puts a lot of love and pride into her food. If you're new at Jamaican food, try small portions first, but later on I bet you would ask for medium or large portions cause it's really, really good home - style Jamaican food, and it's none of that pretentious fare you get at some other restaurants, this is really authentic food. So if you're curious, or just feeling adventurous at trying a new cuisine, try Caribbean Island Spice! :)
