Looking for lunch on a Sunday, we tried Kate's for the first time. The weather was perfect, so we sat outside on the back terrace dominated by a huge smoker from an earlier period of this location. The menu, while not large, offered many attractive choices. As Sunday, the Brunch menu added other interesting options. The woman just held it with Rosie's chicken salad sandwich. Easy but good! The nine grain bread was fresh and roasted exactly right, the chicken salad fresh and full of taste. But the showstopper was the brunch shrimps and grits. The waiter described them as 'Southwestern Style Shrimp and Grits'. That was a good description. The court was spicy enough to get your attention, but not overwhelming. The golf shrimps were large and perfectly cooked. The balance of spices, base, cheddar cooking, bacon and other ingredients was perfect. Overall, every bit as good as any shrimp
Thia place makes simple food right. Error not just for not excellent. Everything is fresh, well prepared and simply enough surprising flavors to keep things interesting. Solid wine choices, relaxed atmosphere, friendly people. You can't go wrong.
