Griechenbeisl - Wien

We went here for dinner, because it seemed one of the places in town to go for a typical veal Schnitzel. Food was okay, service as well. So far, so good. However, the restaurant adds a cover charge of € 2.80 per person on the...bill. They told us that this is normal is Austria. Well, it is not! Then they told us that it is normal in restaurants in central Vienna as well. Also this is not correct. Correct, the cost are indicated somewhere below on a page in their restaurant menu, but we ordered from their web site menu. Dear Griechenbeisl, if you need the € 2.80 cover charge for washing the table linnen, be honest in advance and do not cheat your clients. We would probably have come to your place if your Schnitzels would have cost a few euro's more. But now, you get a negative review, now your place is a tourist trap. And now, you got unhappy clients, who will never come back and advise others to avoid your place as well.

Horrible experience. I check online and it shows that this restaurant opens at 12pm. So I arrive at 12:30 and the door is open. I enter the restaurant, which there is no customer yet, and ask the waiter whether I can have a table for...two. He says the small table is for me. I wondering where is the small table? So I follow him in the dining area and ask him again which table should I take. He is so rude, stare at me, and ask me whether I understand his English. The small table is the reception table at the door ! I was insulted by him, and felt so disappointed. I am an Asian girl.

Der Griechenbeisl liegt günstig in der Innenstadt nicht weit vom Stephansdom und ist so eine Empfehlung nicht nur für das Abendessen, sondern auch für das Mittagessen. Mittags hat man auch eine Chance, ohne Reservierung einen Tisch zu bekommen. Das Essen ist sehr gut und lecker, die Auswahl gut sowie das Personal freundlich. Eine absolute Empfehlung.

Wir waren 5 Tage in Wien und waren vom ersten Essen so begeistert, dass wir ein zweites Mal zum Essen kamen. Sehr gutes Wiener Schnitzel und die veg. Käsenudeln eine echte Alternative für Vegetarier. Das Personal war überaus freundlich. Man fühlte sich als Gast und nicht nur Tourist...

Das Griechenbeisl ist nach eigener Aussage die älteste Gaststätte von Wien. Wir sind mehr oder weniger zufällig während eines Städtetrips darauf gestoßen. Von außen sieht es eher unscheinbar aus, man könnte es ignoranterweise versehentlich mit einem griechischen Lokal verwechseln. Aber der Schein trügt: Das Griechenbeisl war einer der kulinarischen Höhepunkte unserer Wienreise und ein absolutes Muss, wenn man österreichische Spezialitäten essen möchte. Tafelspitz und Wiener Schnitzel waren top! Wir saßen im Freien, aber auch das Innere ist sensationell. Unbedingt ansehen. Die Preise sind vollkommen in Ordnung, Preis-Leistung ist top. Das Personal war sehr zuvorkommend, schnell und freundlich. Wir waren ohne Reserbierung dort, war aber eher Zufall. Also: Vorher reservieren.
