Cafe- Al Caminetto - Wien

Good, fresh pizza. A family own restaurant with a cozy ambiance. The pizza is made in a brick oven and uses only fresh ingredients like the mozzarella and home made sauce. Delicious!!!!!

We were a group of 9 which included 4 children, 3 people are coeliacs and 2 are vegetarian so we recognise we can be a bit demanding with all the dietary requirements. The staff were really accommodating, I think they served us quickly as they could see it's a good idea to feed the children asap. We had the grilled calamari, bistecca pizzaola (this was so good), minestrone soup, caprese salad, gluten free carbonara pasta, spaghetti pomodoro and a mixed salad and the vegetarian gnocchi. The only dish I don't recommend is the gnocchi... too much mozzarella and the gnocchi was not light and fluffy but heavy and doughy. The staff were friendly and the food was good. I would eat here again.

Beware of automatic 10% tip at restaurant. We had a lovely dinner at the restaurant. However, there was no mention upfront that there is a 10% tip automatically added. I did not see it on the menu, nor was it mentioned on the website. It was a rude shock to see that at the end of the meal, especially after the order was lacking and the waiter did not get me a plate of gnocchi. Also, it is not proper to add the 10% tip on the after-tax amount. Tipping is usually on the pre-tax amount. So please beware about this practice, since it is unique to this restaurant in Vienna. Auto-tipping was a rude shock to an otherwise pleasant experience.

An electric socket was hanging off the wall next to my table and was live and exposed, I raised this concern to the owner and he said to go ahead and use it. The food is not worth the experience. For starters, I received one sliced tomato on a chipped plate with some mozzarella. Absolute rubbish. The pizza was below average 4 out of 10. This is the best part.... When I went to pay, the waiter had the rudeness and audacity to point out 3 times that tips are not included so ' 'please increase ' ' the payment. I refused. I tried to pay with AMEX to which the waiter said that this is absolutely not accepted. I refused to use another card and after an argument, I asked to at least try and used the AMEX card on his machine. It worked straight away perfectly well. Just avoid such a dump, there are plenty of other wonderful choices as Vienna is lovely.

The restaurant is just in the very heart of Vienna. That is why it has always all tables busy and a lot of tourists. Sometimes even you can see the line of the tourists waiting to get the table. But that is not a determination of a good restaurant and good food. Before we even got our table my husband told me to pay attention that pizza on the tables looks terrible and other food on the tables also doesn’t look very good. But I insisted to visit this place thinking if there are so many people it means the place gives good food. We ordered minestrone, lasagna, turbot fish with rosemary potato, and a monkfish with spinach. Minestrone was very very bad. Lasagna also was not delicious at all. Husband told me It was the worst lasagna he ever had. But when fish arrived I was totally shocked. Turbot had to be grilled. They brought us a fried and totally dried fish with no any taste (no salt, no pepper). Usually this fish is moist and tender but they over cooked it that much and it became just a dry piece of who knows what. It was not grilled It was just cooked on pan or own. The rosemary potato was also not moist. It was visible they have precooked potatoes then they cut it OTP pieces and bake in own. Potato was totally dry. But the worst was the monkfish. The waiter recommended me to take it. Sp I did. It was cut into four pieces visibly frozen and unfrozen fish, not smelling fresh, fried in a pan or own and had nothing to do with grill (as it was mentioned in menu). In total we payed 82 euros plus tips and had the most terrible food in Vienna ever. Never come back there again. Don’t waist your time and money. Don’t be fooled by busy tables or even line near the restaurant. It is just terrible.
