The Elk's Head - Whitfield

A beautiful escape with an alpine ambiance in northern Umberland. This hotel offers a lovely hot bath and stunning views of the river and surrounding hills right from your window. The staff is excellent, providing thoughtful recommendations, interesting local history, and a great sense of humor. Dinner portions are generous, and the breakfast menu includes good vegetarian and vegan options that we thoroughly enjoyed. The only minor downside was the slightly overcooked eggs. The room was warm and the bed comfortable, ensuring a very restful night's sleep. The location is quiet, wild, and remote, truly a hidden gem in the UK that should be experienced. The hotel and pub would benefit from a catchy sign at the entrance to enhance the atmosphere. Be sure to visit the nearby large church, which is very interesting.

Under new management, this restaurant offers an absolutely brilliant dining experience. The seasonal dishes are prepared to the highest standard, featuring items like scallops with coral sauce, smoked venison spine, and house-cured trout. If they can maintain this quality, then the Elk's Head is poised for great things ahead.

We spent two nights at the end of our holiday in Scotland, and The Elks Head provided a wonderful conclusion to our trip. Our room had beautiful views of the river, and both the dining experience and service were exceptional. I highly recommend staying at this pub, which is under new management.

We have booked a very last minute with the elk’s head, and I have to say that they don’t come before. they have recently taken over the leasing contract and I wish them a lot of success. I'm sure with the amount of thinking and work that she's in the pub, she'd be a nice time when they stay. we also took our dog and they were very welcome.

Note under new ownership the food is really excellent and the service polite and prompt. They work hard to accommodate any dietary requirements. The beer is good too.
