The Villa - Whitby

My husband and I came here with our baby for dinner one night and had the sushi. The waitresses were polite and attentive. The menu was done well - lots of descriptions which helped with our choices. The food was delicious! The restaurant was a very good size, dishes appeared clean and the overall atmosphere was very nice. Will definitely be going back (sans baby) to try teppanyaki!

Loved the Teppanyaki dinner for two. The service was impeccable and with a smile. The chef did his "thing" with a twist of humor. Food was fresh and delicious. We can't wait to go back.

I came here with a large party of 21. The majority of us were sitting at the cooking Teppanyaki table, whilst a couple of us sat nearby as we didn't want the teppanyaki.I ordered off the menu as I wasn't having the teppanyaki due to being a vegetarian. There were a few suitable veggie choices but I decided upon the mango salad with a couple of appetisers (veggie spring rolls & deep fried tofu with sweet soy sauce. The entertainment at the cooking table was nice to observe & the food smelled nice however I waited over 30 minutes for my salad and an additional 15+ minutes for my two appetisers when the restaurant was practically empty. To top it off the food arrived stone cold! tasty but stone cold, so I wasn't happy about it but chose not to send it back to the kitchen just in case it was tampered with (well you never know & I've heard a few stories from people who work in kitchens).I'm not sure whether I would give this restaurant another chance to redeem themselves as there are many other restaurants I can not only get similar choice dishes from but also get HOT food.

We often order take out but don't call ahead, so while we wait we have a hand roll and sake. So much fun to watch all the food choices go by to the tables. The weekends seem to be getting really busy, so service may be slower, but always worth the short wait! We always order sushi, sashimi and maki rolls. We also really like the garlic beef, but it's better warm and fresh instead of take out. We eat most weeks from here and have not found a place in Durham as good or consistent in quality and service.

Took my family to the villa for the first time. The food was very good but part of the teppanyaki experience is the show that the chef puts on. Unfortunately our chef was quiet and didn't really interact with the dinners. The food will bring me back but I will ask for Clarence to be my chef as he seemed to be much more involved with his guests.
