Cute place with some good products but the worst Onegiri experience I ever had (rice ball wrapped with seaweed). It was very dry, hard rice, not fresh at all. I don 't think it was Japanese rice either. We took those back, they didn 't offer refund or any excuses. The only response they said was: Put them in the microwave . Yeah right, we don 't have a microwave. Onegiri is very often used as fast food to be eaten on the road or on a trip, like a sandwich. Suppose to be made fresh everyday, like the Japanese do. And yes, there re other place that sells Onigiri in Montreal, like in Westmount, more west at the Korea-Japanese market and also places like LeFalco for the traditional and beautiful Onigiri. So yes there is room for improvement and please, next time, understand your clients when they honestly mention something wrong with the food, it was honest of us. Best to you and maybe another time we will try again. As a bonus for the ones who read this till the end. They have a Japanese white organic miso in the fridge and its delicious.
A well stocked purveyor of Japanese groceries. Very good fresh sushi and salads prepared in-house daily, except for Sunday.
My Japanese friend and I were in town visiting some friends when she decided she wanted to cook Japanese food for us all. We drove to Miyamoto to pick up some Ingredients for dinner. The market is small and nicely stocked BUT the prices were extremely high!! My friend and I ended up leaving and going to another close by market who’s prices were more reasonable. So be prepared to spend a lot.
Nice place to get Japanese groceries and I can get some items that other East Asian stores lacking. Price are a bit on the pricier side. However, we got two tuna onigiri that day for lunch but the rice inside was dry and hard like undercooked/overnight rice. We double checked the BB date was the same day. Then we noticed that the label said we should microwave it for 30-60 seconds and we took the rice out to steam it for 3 minutes which made them moist again but then the rice became hot rather than room temperature. Honestly, onigiri is supposed to be grap and go food and I never expect to further processing it before eating them. Luckily we are having them at home otherwise this could be very disappointed.
