Lakeside Takeaway - West Dunbartonshire

Since moving to Dumbarton, we've been on the hunt for a good Chinese restaurant and Lakeside fits the bill perfectly. The food is freshly cooked and delicious, with quick delivery to boot. We particularly enjoyed the battered salt chili chips, which can be hard to find at other places. The only minor downside is that some of the portions could be a bit bigger, but that's probably just me being a bit greedy!

We frequently order takeout from Lakeside, and I must say that it is the only restaurant where the food is consistently high quality every time. During our most recent visit, we ordered a meal for 4 people (myself, my partner, my sister, and my niece). We opted to only order main courses as the portions are quite filling. I had my favorite dish, the king prawn chow mien with fine noodles, while my partner had chicken with cashews, my sister had chicken with green peppers and black bean sauce, and my niece had lemon chicken. After trying each dish, I can confidently say that they were all delicious. We placed our order over the phone and picked it up 10 minutes later. Overall, we were very satisfied with our experience.

Due to chinese new year red cap was closed. Decided to give the new lakeside a go. Placed an order for delivery and when it arrived half the order was wrong. I called to tell them this they apologised and would send the correct parts out. I had suspected that i had been overcharged and after adding it up via the menu i had been by £3-4. I had to call them back to advice them of this mistake too. From the original order and the second part that arrived over 30mins later. The chicken satay on the skewer was consumable at best. Salt and pepper chicken was nice. PrAwn crackers where stale. Beef curry was binned after two bites. I was extreamly disappointed with new lakeside to say the least. I accept that mistakes happen but how you deal with them can make such a difference. When the delivery driver came to the door with the correct parts of the order. (Not the fault of the driver!!!! he had been told to ask for the food that was sent out wrong. I have no idea what the intentions where for that and I'm not sure if i really want to know. I thought that was particularly appalling!! Overall the order was a disaster from start to finish. Food was poor only one dish was nice out of four. Customer service was poor(asking for the wrong food back!! Not even sending out fresh rice to go with the correct main that had taken over 30mins to arrive In todays world with social media and TripAdvisor etc. There really is no excuse for this level. If you want to run a successful takeaway the standard i experienced will not benefit you in anyway. I needless to say will not be a returning customer nor will i be recommending to anyone.

Ever since the previous owners departed, the new owner has hiked prices twice amidst the pandemic, all the while shrinking portion sizes. The quality and taste of the food have also taken a hit for the worse. We used to be regular customers at this restaurant every weekend, but not anymore.

Ordered over £60 worth of food for 8 adults, to be served raw chicken in both the satay and chicken wings which were reheated. The salt and chilli chips were just salt and every meal was devoid of flavour. The Kung Po chicken wasn’t bad as it wasn’t anything as there was no flavour. Very poor would not recommend to my worst enemy. A few slices of toast was needed afterwards. Avoid.
