The Oxenham Arms Monastery - West Devon

We had a wonderful dinner on Valentine's night with excellent food and beautiful service. The breakfast was also delicious, a full English breakfast included in the price of the room.

We had a problem with our phone and upload, so you can see the picture below of the typed review from a previous date. Despite this, we were very disappointed with our experience at this restaurant. We could have made a reservation if we were prepared. How many other people have been treated like this? Unfortunately, we must acknowledge the impact this has had on us and we will not be returning to this place in the near future.

We stayed at this restaurant for two nights and visited the local attractions including the Hearts House, Benedictine Abbey, and Habitable Spirits. The building and garden area were a true delight with a lovely view and stone circle. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The staff were quirky characters straight out of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales. Breakfast was well-organized and the coffee was exceptional. We appreciated the attention to history, which added to our overall experience. The Oxenhams may have left long ago, but their legacy lives on thanks to Sabine Baring-Gould. We visited to witness the first day of the trains on the Dartmoor line to Okehampton. The presence of two friendly cats added to the cozy atmosphere and helped create a welcoming environment for all guests.

If they are a regular known that the guy leads the place, john', then they will likely do okay and get half a decent service. but if they happen to fall from a tourist, they can not be regular, they can expect that to be ignored. expect to provide at least minutes between curses for a menu and wait for their order. the personal and even john himself were completely uninterested in our use. eating was okay, but nothing better than that. If you don't want to live in front of the place and get to know john, I would suggest going somewhere else. their use is more appreciated and they will have the satisfaction to support companies that actually take care of their customers. this place was recommended to us by some locals who will undoubtedly be disappointed to hear about our reception when we forward our experience to them.

We had lunch here yesterday. Atmospheric and historic bar full of character. Excellent attentive service and the best roasts ever. I had the vegetarian and others the Turkey. Everything was cooked perfectly, tasted delicious and was presented lovely. Thank you
